it may be noted that about 13 countries which were once ruled by the Portugese would participate in the Lusofonia Games which are due to be held in Goa in the month of November 2013.
The 3rd Lusofonia Games wherein the Portuguese-speaking nations participate, will be held in nine disciplines of athletics, basketball, football, judo, taekwondo, table tennis, volleyball, beach volleyball and wushu.
The state government has already geared up for developing infrastructural facilities to host the forthcoming Portuguese Commonwealth Games event for which the entire facilities including indoor and outdoor stadia, tracks will be developed at a cost of Rs 220 crore.
An athletic ground will be coming up at Bambolim, as part of infrastructure development, a running track is being developed at Peddem ground in Mapusa town, while the existing Peddem indoor ground is being refurbished and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Fatorda is given a facelift.

Gomes said though goa never had such type of infrastructure it was for the first time such facilities were developed and once games were over the same would be put to use for various other state competitions …
Meanwhile sports minister ramesh talwadkar said the work was going on well and by first week of September we would get the whole infrastructure ready for hosting the lusofonia games 2013
