Panaji, November 28, 2018 … Chairperson, National Commission for Safai Karamcharis, Government of India, Shri. Manhar Valjibhai Zala held a meeting with District Magistrate and North Goa Collector, Shri. Levinson Martins, Additional Collector-I, Shri Vikas Gaunekar, representatives of Safai Karamcharis Employees Welfare Associations, Chief Officers of various Municipalities and senior level officers, among others on Tuesday.The various issues that were raised and discussed at the meeting included the monitoring of the implementation of Schemes and programs for the benefit of Safai Karamcharis in Goa.
Shri. Manhar Valjibhai Zala spoke of the need to implement ‘The Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitaion Act, 2013, in right earnest all over the country. During the meeting, the issue of identifying persons who have died in sewer/septic tank and providing compensation of Rs 10 lakhs to the family members of the victim as per Court orders was also discussed.
The Central Government authorities also inquired about the filling up of vacancies and providing promotions to the Safai Karamcharis among other issues.
