SCIENCE EXHIBITION ‘KALPAK’ INAUGURATED IN PANAJI

February 28, 2020  ….‘Kalpak’, an innovative exhibition showcasing science projects, projects in Engineering, Arts and Social Sciences by college students and Goan inventors was inaugurated today at the Old Secretariat Building in the city.  Director of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Goa Prof Dr. Gopal Mugeraya inaugurated the three-day exhibition organized by Directorate of Higher Education in the presence of Director, Directorate of Higher Education Shri. Prasad Lolayenkar and key note speakers Prof. V. Saxena and Dr. Vithal Tilvi. The exhibition was open for the public view todayfree of cost from 10.00 a.m. to 5.p.m.

While speaking on the occasion, Earlier Prof Mugeraya said that education should be a process to bring out the best knowledge from within us. Blaming the online sources of information, Shri. Mugeraya opined that today’s students are becoming confused individuals. “There is too much available in the form of education and information, hence, one must learn to select what is best and suitable. Our education system today does not prepare us to take risks. It was a dream of our late Chief Minister Shri. Manohar Parrikar to make this state an Education Hub hence, he brought some of the best Educational Institutes in the state. Goan students should work hard to get into them and not to go outside for Education,” he urged.

          Director, Higher Education Shri. Prasad Lolayekar in his welcome address informed that the prime goal of organizing ‘Kalpak’ is to provide a unique a platform for students to showcase their talents, and interact with fellow innovators, eventually building future research collaborators. “It aims to bring academicians, innovators and public on a single platform,” Shri. Lolayenkar said. Smt. Siddhi Upadhye compered and also proposed the vote of thanks.

The the formal function was followed by Public talk by Prof. V. Saxena, Ex Vice-Chancellor of Jiwaji University, Gwalior on ‘Mathematics in the World of Biological Sciences’. On February 27th, Dr. Debasis Patnaik from BITS-Goa will address the audience on ‘Education and Socio economic reforms in Goa’ and on February 28, Dr. Vithal Tilvi from Directorate of Higher Education will address on ‘Wonders of the Universe’ at 11.00 a.m.
