METER READERS CAN HELP BUILD GOOD IMAGE OF PWD: SHRI BORKAR

Panaji, April 15, 2015 …. A special training sessions has been organized at Conference Hall, PWD at Altinho by Public Work Department in association with Indian Water Works Association Goa Centre to impart quality training to the Meter readers

The training Session was inaugurated by Principal Chief Engineer of PWD,  Shri D.J. Borkar by lighting a traditional lamp. Chairman, W.W.A. Shri V. S. Sawant, Project Director of JICA Shri A. M. Wachasunder, Chief Engineer –II, Shri S. R. Paranjape, Ex. Chairman of IWWA, Shri R. G. Deo, Superintending Engineer Shri A. S. Panchamukhi and Secretary, IWWA, Shri G. N. Naik Parrikar were also present on the occasion.

 Speaking on the occasion Shri Borkar said, imparting of training to meter readers is very essential; it will help to build a good image of Public Work Department in the society. Lots of such adequate training sessions will be arranged in future to enhance the skill and to build up self confidence among such workers. He said public, expects better services from PWD for which the Department is committed.

 The Indian Water Works Association (IWWA) is a voluntary body of professionals concerned and connected with water supply for municipal, industrial, agricultural uses and treatment and disposal of wastewater. IWWA focuses basically on the entire “Water Cycle” encompassing the environmental, social, institutional and financing issues. It may be noted that some of the Members of the goa state nationalist congress party led by its senior vice president jose Philip dsouza had decided to uphold their resignation from the ncp party after the appointment of suhas walwaikar as the new state ncp president was stayed by its party state observer praful patel on Monday

The concerned ncp leaders had stated that the party high command has not taken anyone in confidence before deciding on the president’s appointment and that too to someone who is not even a primary member of NCP and therefore there was no need for them as such to continue in the party.

Salgaocar Football Club in association with the King’s school organises football festival

Panjim ::: 13/04/2015 … Salgaocar Football Club in association with the King’s school organised a football festival to mark the beginning of the coming together of the two in a mutually beneficial relationship. At a colourful opening, Ms. Swati Salgaocar, Vice President – Youth Development, Salgaocar FC, Mr. Adlear D’Cruz (General Secretary, Salgaocar FC) on behalf of the Vasco based club and Mr. Melvin Pereira (Chairman, The King’s School) and Mrs. Ligia Pereira (Director, The King’s School) representing the institute, unfurled The King’s School and Salgaocar FC’s flags respectively. The jerseys of the school’s various teams for the upcoming year were also unveiled on the occasions and shall sport the Salgaocar FC logo. The King’s School will be the club’s third partner school, with Loyola High School and Marina English High School being the other 2. 

Salgaocar FC, founded in 1956 by the late Mr. V.M. Salgaocar with the objective of developing Goan football and promoting local talent has had Youth Development at the core of it’s philosophy and not surprisingly therefore, the club’s setup is widely regarded as one of the best in the country and has come in for praise from several quarters, including the Asian Football Confederation.

DISCIPLINE IS THE MAJOR KEY OF ALL SUCCESS: SHRI FRANCISCO D’ SOUZA

Panaji: April 13, 2015 …. Deputy Chief Minister  Shri Francisco D’Souza who is also the President of Bharat Scouts and Guides-Goa State  has said that discipline is a major key to success. It is the ability to do what needs to  be done at the appropriate time in order to accomplish  the desired goals and therefore he said that the foremost duty of the schools and teachers is to teach discipline to their students.

He was speaking as the Chief Guest at the awards distribution ceremony organized by the Bharat Scouts and Guides, Goa State at Institute Menezes Braganza hall in Panjim today. 

Speaking further he lauded the Scouts and Guides for their dedicated services of rendering assistance to the old and handicapped devotees during the recently concluded Exposition. The deputy Chief Minister also urged upon the scouts and Guides to play a role in cleanliness of the surrounding in response to the call given by the Prime Minister on Swaech Bharat. He said that the students  not only can effectively work towards this drive but also educated the society on cleanliness.

The awards presented on the occasion comprised of Bob-a-Job Highest Earnings Awards for Scouts and Guides for highest earnings at the district and state level. Outstanding Unit awards, Adult leader awards who have put in long and dedicated service in the movement were presented.

State Treasurer Shri Rodney D’Souza was presented Silver star  National award for his dedicated services for the origination. Replying to the felicitations Shri Rodney thanked all those who have supported him in his endeavours.

ORIENTATION COURSE IN HOCKEY GAME TO PE TEACHER

Panaji: April 12, 2015 … The Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs is organizing an Orientation Course cum clinic in Hockey Game in collaboration with Goan’s  Hockey for the benefit of Physical Education Teachers from Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools from Goa State on April 16 and 17, 2015.

 The course shall be conducted District wise first day on April 16, 2015 for the P.E. Teachers of North District at Peddem Sports Complex, Mapusa and April 17, 2015 for the P.E. Teachers from South District at P.J.N. Stadium Fatorda, Margao.  This Course is Organized to promote Hockey Game in Schools from this state and in order to enhance the knowledge of the P.E. Teachers and in turn for the benefit the students by imparting latest knowledge of IHF rules and regulations, Skills and Techniques and Strategies Associated with the Game of Hockey.

 Heads of the Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools are requested to depute their school Phy. Edu. Teachers to attend the said orientation Course in Hockey accordingly to their District venue.

National Oil Spill Disaster Contingency Plan Meeting held in Goa

Panaji, April 12, 2015  …. The Twentieth National Oil Spill Disaster Contingency Plan (NOSDCP) and Preparedness meeting was held at Goa recently.

Vice Admiral HCS Bisht, AVSM, Director General Indian Coast Guard, Chairman NOSDCP, chaired the meeting. A total of eighty delegates including representative of various Ministries, Central and State Government departments and agencies, Ports and Oil Companies attended the meeting.

A highlight of the meeting was the release of the revised National Oil Spill Disaster Contingency Plan by Vice Admiral HCS Bisht, AVSM Chairman NOSDCP. The comprehensively revised 2015 edition of the NOSDCP reflects current international norms and best practices, key relevant national regulation, experience gained since publication of first edition in Jul 1996 and valuable inputs received from stakeholders to the national plan. While the earlier editions of the NOSDCP covered only oil spills, the revised edition initiates national preparedness and response to HNS incidents also.

Yet another highlight of the meeting was the release of the Online Oil Spill Advisory (OOSA) system by Dr SSC Shenoi, Director Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services. The OOSA system developed by INCOIS places India among a select group of countries to have indigenously developed an online prediction system for movement of oil spills and significantly enhances the efficacy of national response to marine oil spills.

The 20th NOSDCP meeting reviewed the national capabilities with the common aim to ensure collective preparedness to respond to any oil spill contingency in Indian waters. Vice Admiral HCS Bisht also recollected the minor incidents of pollution damages over the past year and the oil spill in Bangladesh which caused damage to the fragile eco system of the Sunderbans Delta and urged persons in charge of all ports and oil installations to review their plans and resources for oil spill contingencies in Indian waters.

ISSUE OF PERMANENT STRUCTURE OF SANJAY SCHOOL TO BE PERSUED WITH STATE GOVT.: DM

April 12, 2015 ….Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar has assured that the long pending demand to have permanent structure for Sanjay Higher Secondary and Vocational Unit will be in reality soon. He said he will take initiative and insist upon the State Government to take  necessary steps to have permanent structure for this school.

Shri Parrikar was speaking as a Chief Guest at the  annual day function of Sanjay Higher Secondary and Vocational Unit held at Porvorim recently.

Speaking further Shri Parrikar said that it is our main motto and duty to look after needs of these special children. He complimented INS Mandovi for taking various efforts for this school and appealed to them to take more initiative for the welfare of the students.

Shri Parrikar said that the performance shown by these special students has is satisfying and these Students with these kinds of special needs should be provided additional educational services such as different approaches to teaching, the use of technology and  specifically adapted teaching area will help them a enrich their academic pursuits.

Students were felicitated by Achiever of Academic Awards at the hands of Shri Michael Lobo on the occasion.

CM INSPECTS ONGOING WORK OF CENTRAL JAIL AT COLVALE

Panaji- April 11, 2015 … Chief Minister Shri Laxmikant Parsekar recently visited ongoing Modern Central Jail at-Colvale , and acquainted himself with the progress of work so far.

The work of construction of Central Jail has been executed through the PWD and is nearing completion. Phase- I has been already completed and Phase II will be completed on the end of the year.

During the course of his visit Shri Parsekar instructed the concerned officers to maintain the quality of work and expedite the remaining work.

It is proposed to shift the prisons to the new place by the end of May this year.

On arrival, the Chief Minister Shri Parsekar was received by the Inspector General of Prisons, Shri Elvis Gomes who took him around the place and briefed about the progress.

Defense minister Manohar parrikar inspects ongoing works for the upcoming new mandovi bridge in the capital city

11/04/2015 … Defense minister Manohar parrikar along with chief minister laxmikhant Parsekar, gsidc chairman dr pramod sawant and other government officials on Friday inspected the ongoing works for the upcoming new mandovi bridge in the capital city …

It may be noted that Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, had laid the foundation stone of the new Mandovi bridge at Goa last year …

The third Mandovi bridge is receiving 90 per cent of its financing from NABARD the financial institution which is the main lender for the infrastructure project, and has sanctioned Rs 390-crore loan out of total project cost of Rs 514 crore.

Sources said that almost 66,000 vehicles travel over the Mandovi bridges every day and with the construction of a third mandovi bridge it is expected that at least 25,000 of these will go over the new bridge directly to Margao or Ponda once it is built. This is expected to greatly reduce the present traffic congestion near the Panaji KTC bus stand.

Union minister of road transport, national highways and shipping Nitin Gadkari approves development of three new roads in the state

10/04/2015 … Union minister of road transport, national highways and shipping Nitin Gadkari approved the development of three new roads in the state Gifting Goa a 5,000 crore bonanza for development of road transport and infrastructure .

The foundation stone was also laid for the road-widening project along NH 4-A and NH 17-B. The highlight was the announcement of the long-awaited Zuari bridge, which would be built at a cost of 2,000 crore which the Centre would foot.

Addressing media persons at the party head office in panjim union minister of road transport, national highways and shipping Nitin Gadkari said that the foundation stone for a new bridge on the River Zuari will be held on December 19 while the Goa-Mumbai Highway would be concretised with four lanes.

Gadkari said the inland waterways bill to convert 101 rivers across the country into transport channels would be introduced in Parliament on April 20 and urged the Goa government to make use of inland waterways for transportation of goods, which will help reduce logistics costs.

The bill aims to reduce traffic burden from roads and promote waterways where transportation cost is barely 50 paise a km in comparison to Rs.1 by rail and Rs.1.5 a km through roads.

Gadkari also stated that the his government aim in the next coming months would also be to increase the gdp up to 8% which was earlier down to 4.5 percent during the erstwhile upa government
