PRESS NOTE Book on Catholicism in Goa gets released at Calangute on Thursday

0
dec-19-2012 … ‘Passion in Paradise’, a photo-book on modern-day Catholicism in Goa, will be released at Literati Calangute on Thursday, Dec 20, 2012 at 5.45 pm.

The 80-page book with 40 photographs is by German photographer and journalist Christina Fernandes, who says Goans — regardless of creed — are devoutly religious and having strong ties to their cultural traditions.
Christina, who is based in Dubai, explores the lives of Catholics in Goa today and aims to describe the way people live their faith.  She is married in the Fernandes family of Chimbel and Porvorim.
Her images take the reader not just to the old colonial grandeur of Old Goa, but to the faith of humble folk in Kakra (near Taleigao), and the middle class at prayer in Betim and Chimbel.
It visits the grand homes of Chandor, and the intense feast-time devotion cutting across religious lines at Mapusa.  Images from Divar, Nuvem and Saligao catch the eye of the reader while the book attempts to look at how religion is coping with changing times in Goa.
The function is open to the public, and the book is priced at Rs 250.  Details from goa1556@gmail.com
