TASK FORCE COMMITTEE ON TOBACCO CONTROL MEETING HELD

Panaji, December 7, 2012 …..  The  3rd  meeting of District Task Force Committee on Tobacco Control  chaired by  Shri  R. Mihir Vardhan, Collector (North )   was held in the conference hall,  Collectorate, Panaji.

During the course of discussion at the meeting, it was proposed to organize  one day  workshop  on Tobacco control for Principals of  Higher Secondary Schools and Colleges  in North Goa.  About 100 Principals or their representatives are  expected to participate in the workshop.

It  was also proposed  to hold  the awareness  programmes  at  various  schools  to educate the school going children  about ill effect of  smoking,  gutkha and Tobacco  etc. during the month of  January and February, 2013.

The  meeting   also discussed about  printing  of  leaflets  on Tabacco Control  to distribute to Panchayats and Schools, to  prepare and display of revised new “No Smoking” boards, enforcement squad  as per  COTPA  act at  taluka level in North Goa and related other issues.

The meeting was  attended by Dipak Desai, Addl. Collector, Smt. Sheru Shirodkar, Dy. Collector,   Shri Roland Martins, Dr. Shekhar  Salkar, other committee members  and Senior Govt.  Officers.

Tiswaddi SDM releases arrested labourer’s involved in illegal Sand extraction in Cumbarjua Canal

8th-Dec … The forty nine labourers who were arrested by the old goa police officials in connection with the illegal sand extraction activities in to the mandovi river in cumbarjua were produced before the sub divisional magistrate, tiswadi, Panjim on Friday morning

All the forty nine labourers who are mostly from bihar and uttar Pradesh and were arrested under section 41 were released on a surety of rs 2000 each after they were produced before the tiswaddi sdm …

It may be noted that on Thursday evening a police complaint to had been filed by Technical Assistant of mines and geology department Sudhir Malwankar, after he along with a team conducted a raid on the illegal sand extraction sites.

The officials later handed over the five canoes to the Marine Police, while the labourers were handed over to Old Goa police, following which they were arrested.

Meanwhile the Old Goa police have also summoned the owners of the five canoes for further investigation and reports are there that the old goa police officials are in the process of filing a cases against the owners under section 38 of goa miner minerals concession rule 1985, rule 2 (e) of goa daman and diu act and section 22 of mines and minerals regulation and development act …

PDA Chairman finally hands over the Document of Development permission to the President, Goa Football Association

Duler Football Ground of Goa Football Association is one of the oldest and best known grounds in Goa, with a rich historical past. Goa Football Association started to develop and to improve this ground since 1997, in a phased manner. Recently, they have undertaken an ambitious programme of upgradation of this ground which includes important steps like replacement of grass with astraturf, provision of flood lighting for night play, augmentation of seating capacity of the stadium as well as improvement of the amenities and facilities for players and spectators.

A massive expansion project was prepared for the purpose, under the guidance of the President GFA, Shri Shrinivas Dempo, and the Executive Committee, which included construction of additional buildings with total built – up area of about 8600 sq.mts. This will increase the seating capacity of the stadium from present 6000 to 8000, provide adequate amenities and facilities for the players, proper space for the media, matching parking facility to satisfy the demand, and, most importantly, setting up of a Football Academy with state-of-art infrastructure, such as accommodation for players and coaches, auditorium, board room, well-equipped gym, swimming pool, medical facilities, kitchen and dining hall as well as the necessary space for administration and offices. A substantial commercial component in form of shops and offices – has been incorporated in the project to make it financially viable and self sufficient.

The Project was recently accorded a formal approval (Development Permission) by the North Goa Planning & Development Authority, thanks to the sincere efforts and valuable assistance provided by its Chairman Shri Michael Lobo, who himself is fully committed to the cause of the game which now has been declared as the state sport of Goa.

The project has been prepared by M/S. Environmental Planning & Design Consultants, who have been associated with the phase – wise development and improvement of the Duler Football Stadium since its beginning in 1997.

With this approval, Goa Football Association, under the leadership of Shri Shrinivas Dempo and support of the members, now propose to undertake implementation of the project, which will have a far-reaching impact on the upliftment of this most popular sport in Goa.

POWER SHUT DOWN

A power shut down has been arranged on December 7, 2012 from 9.30 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. at 11 KV Dabal Feeder.  Hence there will be no power supply to the areas of Perudak, Ambeudak, Narvekar Mines , Demamol, Kakodkar Farm and Cuddegal.

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in alliance with is Directorate of Education, Government of Goa is organising a one-day Summit :  CII Higher Education Summit 2012 “Improving Quality of Higher Education to Drive Goa’s Economy” on Friday, 14 December 2012 at Vivanta by Taj Panaji, Goa

PORVORIM PS: Shri Prakash s/o Sakharam Bali r/o Bella Vistawada, Sangolda complained that on 04.12.12 at 18.15 hrs.  at Porvorim,  accused  person namely  Nitesh s/o Bhikaji Kerkar r/o  Sukhawada, Korgao, Pernem rode his Pulsar M/Cycle No. GA-08-D-2514  in a rash and negligent manner while proceeding on NH-17 road from Panaji towards Mapusa and when reached near Mahindra Show room Porvorim ,dashed against Dio scooter No.GA-03-J-1981 as  result  of which the  rider  of  Dio Scooter  sustained  injuries so also  the accused  rider  himself  sustained injuries. 2)  Shri Subhash Phulare Jr. Telecom Officer, Porvorim complained that on 05.12.12 between 00.00 hrs.  to 11.00 hrs. near  Tarun Bharat  Office in an open place,  accused  person namely  Raju s/o  Manappa  Lamani, 2) Prakash  s/o  Govind Lamani all r/o Thanda  Belgaum Karnataka, committed theft of BSNL  ULG Cable  wire of 03 meters from open  place. OLD GOA PS: On 05.12.12, one Glen s/o Issac Peter aged 46 yrs.  r/o St. Cruz  n/o  Thivim, Mapusa was found hanging  to a tree near Alua Hotel, Merces. Body preserved in GMC Morgue Bambolim. U.D.No.72/12 u/s 174 Cr. P. C. stands registered.

AGACAIM PS: Dr. Sunanda Amonkar of GMC Bambolim complained that on 25.11.12 at TNK in ward No.131 GMC Bambolim, accused person namely Sneha Fernandes r/o Rivona, Sanguem being the mother of child, a newly born baby girl of 11 days knowingly abandoned the child in ward No. 131 GMC Bambolim. Accused being arrested. Cr.No.97/12 u/s 317 IPC and Sec 8 of Goa Children Act stands registered. PI S.M. Vaigankar is I. O.

COLLEM PS: On 05.12.12, one Babaji s/o Krishna Patyekar, age 51 yrs. r/o Bazarwada, Collem was found hanging with the help of Dupatta in his residential house at Bazarwada, Collem. U.D.No.18/12 u/s 174 Cr. P. C. stands registered. PI Jivba Dalvi is I. O.

 

MAPUSA PS: Shri Rajendra   Pednekar r/o Mapusa complained that on 05.12.12 prior to 15.50 hrs.  unknown accused  person committed theft of gold chain weighing 10 grams  W/rs.30,000/- ,  two gold bangles 35 grams  W/rs.10,500/- gold ring 8 grams W/rs.30,000/- cash of Rs.60,000/- all W/rs.2,25,000/- and  cheque book, passbook from the  cupboard by  entering  from front door gate  which was not locked. ANJUNA PS: On 05.12.12, one Baptist s/o Antonio Rodrigues was found hanging on the bhendi tree with the help of nylon rope at Gudem Siolim. Body preserved in GMC Morgue Bambolim. U.D.No.39/12 u/s 174 Cr. P. C. stands registered. PSI Mahesh Kerkar is I. O.

2)  Victim girl complained that on 05.12.12 between 02.30 hrs. to 04.15 hrs., four unknown  person/s with  their  common  intention wrongfully  restrained  her and her  friend  and further touched their body  while they were  walking  along  the coast  of Baga and Anjuna beach  thereby  by outraged  their modesty. Cr.No.156/12 u/s 341 r/w 34 IPC stand registered. PI V. P. Karpe is I. O.

VASCO PS: Shri Ravindranath  Naik r/o  Pandar wadi, Head land Sada, mormugao  complained that  prior to 08.11.12 at TNK  at Dhanashree Enterprises situated  at shop No.2 Classic  Building  Pixem Dongri,  Vasco Goa,  accused  Namely  Amar Harijan r/o  Pandar  Sada,  who is his employee in his shop at Dhanashree enterprises committed  theft of cheque and cash of Rs.70,000/- from the said  shop over the  period of his employment, forged  his signature over the  cheque leaves and   produced the same as  genuine at Indian Bank Vasco and  Bicholim Urban Co-Operative Society  Vasco  and  withdrew total amount  of Rs.50,000/-. Cr.No.234/12 u/s 381, 465, 468, 471 IPC stands registered.

CANACONA PS: Miss Rekilda Fernandes r/o Ordofondwada, Bhatpal, Canacona complained that on 05.12.12 prior to 11.15 hrs. in the rented room of  her house H.No.15,  Ordofondwda, Bhatpal, Canacona,  accused person namely  Vinod Soren n/o  Jharkand over  personal  enmity  murdered his  paramour namely Mrs.  Nirmala Gauda aged 42 yrs,  n/o Karnataka and absconded. Cr.No.105/12 u/s 302 IPC stands registered. PI Madkaikar is I. O.

2) Complaint on behalf of the State that on 04.12.12 prior to 22.45 hrs.  accused  person  namely  Batis s/o Luis Gomis r/o  Pallolem  Canacona, was found  playing  live  loud music at  Beendom Bar and Restaurent – Pallolem  without  having  any permission  from the  competent  authority  thereby  causing  annoyance and  nuisance  to the general  public. Sparsh Women Federation celebrate its Annual Day

“Sparsh” Women Federation, a cluster of Self Help groups promoted by Syngenta Santa Monica Works under their Community Development Project ”Sparsh”  celebrated its Annual day on 1.12.2012 at “Shri Shantadurga Verlekarin” Hall at Marcel.

Mr. Deepak Dhavlikar, local MLA and Minister for Co-Operation and Factories & Boilers was the chief guest on the occasion. Ms. Auda Veigas a well-known women activist from Goa was the guest of honour and main speaker.

Present on the dais were Mr. Pratap Volvoikar, Sarpanch of Marcel Panchayat, Ms Sarvinda Tivrekar President of “Sparsh” Women federation, heads of corporate social responsibilities sygenta india limitied corlim, Mr. P.S.Jagadeesha and Mr. Sakharam Borkar.

Mr. Sakharam Borkar, in his welcome speech outlined various activities conducted for Self Help Groups under the project ”Sparsh”. “We have at present 100 self- help groups comprising of more than 2000 women linked with the project” he said.

Mr. P.S. Jagadeesha appealed the women to participate keenly in these Self Help Group activities so that they can add to the income of the family and be self- sufficient.

Ms. Sarvinda Tivrekar, President of the “Sparsh” Federation gave an account of various activities done in the year while two members of the federation shared their experiences.

Ms. Auda Veigas spoke on different issues pertaining to women and the ways to overcome them. She said that women should be pro-active and take actions before it is too late. As Goa is a tourist destination, she appealed the women to undertake making mementos made out of the shells, wood, coconut shells which have lot of demand.

Speaking on the occasion the chief guest Mr. Deepak Dhavlikar, local MLA and Minister for Co-Operation and Factories & Boilers said “I am very happy to be the part of this function wherein more than 500 women have gathered and therefore I congratulate Syngenta for getting a mass support for this initiative and appealed the women to take maximum benefits in form of trainings and exposure visits given by the company’

Dhavlikar said “our government has undertaken various initiatives for women and intended to start a Co-operative bank exclusively for Self Help groups of Goa and a marketing facility in the capital to sell the goods made by self- help groups.

Five best self Help groups were given musical instruments as prizes at the hands of the chief guest. Winners of the various competitions organized earlier were awarded prizes and certificates at the hands of dignitaries on dais.

Earlier in the day various competitions such as Folk dance competition, Cookery competition, Fancy dress competition, Singing competition, Rangoli competition were conducted for the women and women of all ages enthusiastically participated in the competitions. The audience witnessed a seventy year old lady taking part in the fancy dress competition.

Health Minister emphasis on need of upgradation of Hospitals in Goa

Stating that there was a need to upgrade the present Pre Plucked 360 Lace Frontal goa medical college hospital along with the two district hospitals of the state, state health minister laxmikhant parsekar on Tuesday mentioned that the need of the hour was to upgrade the major hospitals of the state so that the same hospitals could be well connected with a good network of 108 ambulances with educate number of doctors and nurses which are specialist and qualified ones ….

The health minister was speaking to goan reporter on the sidelines of the function held at the corlim primary health centre in tiswaddi taluka, where in a multi purpose van was donated by sygenta India limited to the corlim primary health centre as a part of their corporate social responsibilities on Saturday …

mr parsekar said “ though I personally feel that there may be need of small bedded hospitals in certain places in the state but goa being a small place what is important is that the goa medical college hospital which is also an education institute and which gives tertiary type of health care along with the two district hospitals was the need to be upgraded, maintained well so that these hospitals are in a position to cater to all the people of the state with a goods network of 108  and for that if need be we might add more vehicles to it but or we cant think of have hospitals independently in each taluka’s and in each constituencies as hospital is not just the structure or the building but manpower is also important and unless you have educate number of specialist and qualified doctors and nurses you could not have a hospital and you cant say that it is a hospital”

parsekar said “After I took over as the health minister my government has recruited about 100 nos of doctors in last eight and half months as well added 164 nurses in last week and in another forth-night  we are adding about 125 nurses, a fleet of about 300 nurses is being added to health sector and now as regards to medical education is concerned we have decided to increase the no of mbbs students from 100 to 150 and so from also next coming academic year we are also increase the nursing capacity from fifty to hundred and also we intend to start post graduation courses in nursing in goa which we do not have” ..

parsekar also mentioned “We have also initiated steps to have para-medical courses which we do not have here and one important decision we are taking is that the post graduate students after completion would be required to put in one year of service and with the help for these post-graduate specialist and consultants we would be in a position to see that all primary health centers and community health centers in rural areas function well

Forty Three year old hangs to Death at Merces on Wednesday

Forty three year old glen peter son of issac peter was found hanging to a tree opposite alua’s at merces on Wednesday morning..

the incident was brought to the notice of the old goa police officials at around 9.45 am in the morning by an unknown caller who informed about a person seen hanging to a tree after which the old goa police rushed to the site and conducted the panchanama of the body …

The name of the deceased was identified through his voter’s identity card which was found by old goa police officials from the deceased while conducting panchanama and was fond to be a resident from dhanva tivim …

Later the body was taken to the goa medical college hospital for inquest which was done in front of glen’s wife, brother and his son

Sources from old goa police station informed that glen was the prime accused in guru pujari murder case which has been registered at the margao police station and was registered in 1999, though glen was acquitted from the said case the state has filed an appeal in the high court which is still pending while glen was granted bail in the same case and due to the same the case is being looked up by sub divisional magistrate under whose supervision post mortem would be conducted on Thursday …

The old goa police officials have ruled out the case of murder and have registered the case as unnatural death case and further investigations are on
