GOVERNOR CHAIRS STATE MANAGING COMMITTEE MEETING OF SPECIAL FUND

Panaji: November 11, 2017  …. The Governor, Dr (Smt) Mridula Sinha chaired the 21st State Managing Committee meeting of Special Fund for reconstruction and rehabilitation of Ex-Servicemen at Raj Bhavan, Dona Paula, recently.

Financial assistance, scholarships, increase of daughter’s marriage grant, Armed Forces Flag Day celebrations and collection were some of the issues discussed during the meeting.

The committee deliberated on various issues and the members also offered various suggestions.  

Shri. Krishnamurthy, IAS, Captain Richie Ranjan, Chief Staff Officer, FOGA, Air Vice Mshl G Gomes, VSM (Retd), Smt. Sanjeevanee Kutty, IAS, from the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, Ministry of Defence, New Delhi, Air Cmde P.K Pinto, AVSM (Retd), Brig Brijesh Dhiman, ADG, Directorate of Resettlement Zone (South),    Smt Anjali Sehrawat, IAS, Collector, South Goa among others attended the meeting.   

GOVERNOR INAUGURATES OCATAVE – 2017

Panaji: November 11, 2017 …. Governor, Smt Mridula Sinha recently inaugurated “OCTAVE 2017” a five day cultural extravaganza showcasing arts and crafts from the North Eastern States at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao in presence of Minister, Art and Curlture, Shri Govind Gaude; Leader of Opposition, Shri Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar; Chairperson, Margao Municipal Council, Dr Babita Angle Prabhudessai; Shri Gurudas Pilarnkar, Director, Art and Curlture; Shri Furqan Khan, Director, West Zone Cultural Centre, Udaipur and Shri Prashant Naik, Chairman, Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.

This festival of art and culture is organised in collaboration by Ministry of Culture, Government of India; West Zone Cultural Centre, Udaipur; North East Zone Cultural Centre, Dimapur and Directorate of Art and Culture, Goa. This festival will provide right platform to the artists and artisans of the North East region to project their rich cultural heritage. This National level event is aimed at bridging the gap prevailing in the rest of the Country in creating awareness about the rich cultural heritage and expressions of the North Eastern States which includes Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.

After inaugurating the festival by lighting traditional lamp Governor, Smt Mridula Sinha said, this festival will give an opportunity to the people of Goa to have a glimpse of the art and culture of the North Eastern States. Decades passed but People of India have not forgotten their rich tradition and cultural heritage in addition, they have protected and nourished their tradition and art and culture, Smt Sinha said. India believes in ‘Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam’ which means World as one family. India has vibrant, rich and aesthetic culture, Smt Sinha concluded.

Shri Govind Gaude said events like OCTAVE helps in national integration and cultural exchanges within States. While underlining the need to preserve the rich cultural heritage Shri Gaude said Government is working tirelessly to protect and flourish the tradition and culture of the State.

Around 350 to 400 artists will be presenting folk culture, classical music, dance, cuisine, handicrafts, fine art, fashion show, rock music etc. Also the craft fair of North Eastern States will be exhibited during the festival days from 3.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. Festival will conclude on October 12, 2017.

GOVERNOR HONOURED WITH LATE UDAYRAJ SINGH MEMORY AWARD

Panaji: November  10, 2017The Governor of Goa Dr. Smt. Mridula Sinha was honoured with the late Udayraj Singh Memory Award at a function held at Patna, Bihar. The award is being presented in the memory of Late Udayraj Singh the former editor of “Nayee Dhara” a 68 years old publication.

          The Governor of Bihar Shri Satpal Malik was also present on the occasion .

          Speaking on the occasion Shri Malik said, liberty, equality and brotherhood are the ideals of our Constitution, our literature is centric on this ideals. The literature of Dr. Smt. Mridula Sinha enriches the Indian culture, he said.

          Smt. Mridula Sinha spoke on the theme, “ Women’s contribution in folk literature”.

          Earlier the son of  Late Udayraj Singh welcomed the dignitaries. The editor of Nayee Dhara Shri Shivnarayan Singh compered the function.

GOA TO PARTICIPATE AT IITF IN NEW DELHI

Panaji, November 10, 2017 … The Goa State is participating at the 37th edition of India International Trade Fair to be held at iconic Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from November 14 to 27, 2017.

The theme of IITF for this year is “START UP INDIA, STAND UP INDIA”.

 Every year the State Government is participating in IITF, a mega international event to showcase Goa as a International Tourist locale, promote tourism in Goa in a big way and boost industrial growth and investment in the State, besides to Project Goa’s rich cultural heritage, cuisine and hospitality to the outer world.

          The Department of Information and Publicity is the Nodal Agency for participation of Goa State at IITF. The other participating departments and corporations includes Department of Tourism, Goa Handicrafts Rural and Small Scale Industries Development Corporation Ltd., Info Tech Corporation of Goa Ltd (ITG) and Goa Tourism Development Corporation.

          At IITF, the Goa Pavilion will be set up in 150 sqm  space in Hanger 15 (lake) at ITPO, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

GOA SARAS 2017 CONCLUDES

Panaji: November 10, 2017  … The Minister for Rural Development, Shri Jayesh Salgaonkar was the Chief Guest for the function of Goa Saras 2017 which concluded recently.

On the occasion, Shri Salgaonkar felicitated the winners of various competitions held in connection with Goa Saras.

Shri Salgaonkar appreciated the work of various self-help women groups for having participated and displayed various exhibits at the fair. He stressed the need to encourage self-help groups and at the same time informed that the Department has plans to organise a fair at South Goa.

Director of DRDA (District Rural Development Agency), Shri Vasudev N Shetye welcomed the gathering. Rupa Chari compered the function.   

 

GENERAL BODY MEETING OF NORTH GOA ZILLA PANCHAYAT HELD

Panaji :November 9,2017 …. The General Body Meeting of North Goa Zilla Panchayat was  held in the Secretariat  Porvorim today.  Smt. Ankita Navelkar,  President North Goa ZP chaired the meeting. The meeting discussed various issues such as Tour, Developmental works, felicitation of meritorious students, purchase of chairs, bill of CCTV cameras etc. Minutes of last meeting were also  approved  by the meeting.

Shri Vasudev Korgaonkar, Vice-President, Shri Gupesh Naik,  Smt. Shrimati Mandrekar, Shri Arun Bankar, Smt. Saraswati Wadkar as members  Smt.Ruhi  Redkar Chief Executive Officer  and others attended the meeting.

44TH MEETING OF GOA LABOUR WELFARE BOARD HELD

Panaji: November  9, 2017 …. The 44th meeting of Goa Labour Welfare Board was held in the Secretariat Porvorim yesterday. Minister for Revenue Shri Rohan Khaunte chaired the meeting. Shri Christopher Fonseca, AITUC, Shri Vivek  Marathe, Chief Inspector of Inspectorate of Factories & Boilers, other members of the board attended the  meeting.

Retrenched Workers Assistance Scheme, reconstitution of subcommittee for retrenched works assistance   scheme, procurement of software for the office of Goa Labour Welfare Board, implementation of VIIth pay commission to the staff of Goa Labour Welfare Board etc. were the main  points in the agenda  discussed in the meeting

Shri Khaunte suggested to make improvement and implement   previous  schemes  which are in force for the welfare of the labour and aimed to have   labour friendly environment in the state.  He earlier also attended 10th meeting of Goa Building and other Construction Welfare Board. and reviewed various schemes of the Central Government implemented for the welfare  organized and unorganized labourers.

INTEGRITY IS THE CORE OF ANY PROFESSION

Panaji: November 8, 2017 … Chief Minister Shri. Manohar Parrikar today inaugurated a workshop for Scientist and Journalists at National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Dona Paula. The workshop is based on ‘S & T Communication Strategies and approaches with a focus on The Indian Ocean: Economic and Geostrategic Significance’ and is organized by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi from November 7-10, 2017.

Speaking on the occasion the Chief Minister congratulated the CSIR and called the workshop as a wonderful and unique exercise. “I consider myself a technocrat. As I am an engineer by profession, I use technical aspects while managing various administrative and political tasks in my daily routine,” he said.

Stating that such workshops are essential for journalists, he mentioned that integrity is the core of any profession.  “In journalism, integrity is not only about faithful reporting. It is also how you report an incident for the benefit of the society. In order to analyze a report, a journalist needs scientific thinking. Hence, scientific knowledge, when properly understood by media, is a boon to the society.”

Every magic can be scientifically explained. India has a big coastline and if with proper planning and utilization, we can grow in terms of natural resources. All these aspects should be scientifically explained to the public; hence, this workshop is a golden opportunity for all the participants,” he said.

Director General of CSIR Dr. Girish Sahani, Director of NIO Prof. Sunil Kumar Singh, Senior Journalist Shri. Rajendra Prabhu, personnel from various national media and NIO employees were present on the occasion.

Smt. Bala Prabhu compered the function while Dr. Randeep Mukhopadhyay proposed the vote of thanks.

JOINT MOBILE COURT FOR REDRESSAL OF GRIEVANCES OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES IN GOA TO BE HELD ON NOV 23

 Panaji, November 8, 2017 …  The Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Government of India, New Delhi jointly with the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities will be holding a Mobile Court on November 23, 2017 from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. at Room No. 407, Conference Hall, Mathany Saldanha Administrative Complex, Margao-Goa.

            The Grievances of persons with disabilities on the following issues-Issue of Disability Certificate, Free Education in appropriate environment to children up age of 18 years, reservation in admission in Educational Institutions,  reservation in employments, reservation in poverty, alleviation schemes, rights and facilities under Persons with the Disabilities Act, Executives Orders and other Govt. instruction etc., any kind of discrimination on the ground of disabilities, will be heard in the Mobile Court and orders will be passed on the spot at the Mobile Court venue, provided complaint forms duly filled in by the complainant reaches the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, C/o Sanjay Centre for Special Education Research and Training, Pundalik Nagar, Alto-Porvorim or Directorate of Social Welfare, 18th June Road, Panaji-Goa  or on E-mail ID  i.e.socialwelfaregoa@ rediffmail.com on or before 5.30 p.m. on  November 10, 2017.

CM LAUNCHES WOMEN’S FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Panaji: November 07, 2017 … The Chief Minister of Goa, Shri Manohar Parrikar today launched the first-ever Women’s Football League at a city hotel in Panaji. While speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that everyone should leave aside their differences and work for the betterment of the game. “Football is my love and I will support it,” said Shri Parrikar. He further said that Indian football requires a lot of energy to cross the threshold line. The Chief Minister added further that we need to improve on our techniques and training.

The Women’s Football League is an initiative of the Goa Football Association (GFA) and Vedanta. GFA president, Shri  Elvis Gomes while speaking on the occasion said that they will promote the Goan football eco system at large.

The launch of the women’s league coincides with the day Goa were crowned the Women’s National champions in 1977 for the first time nearly four decades ago.

On the occasion veteran women football players    were felicitated on the occasion. Smt Vijayadevi Rane, who was the president of the Goa Women’s Football Association in 1977 stressed on the importance of tapping talent at the school level to achieve better results.  Juliana Gurjao e Colaco, the Chairperson of the Women’s Committee, Goa Football Association, said that the women players in the league are the future champions of Goa and India.

Arjuna Awardee, Shri Brahmanand Sankhwalkar told the players to sacrifice for the cause of football and said that the league would be a supply chain of players in future for the Indian football team.

The Women’s Football League will begin on Saturday, November 18, at the Duler Football Stadium. The six teams who will participate are Flaming Oranje, Panjim Dolphins, Cuncolim Warriors, SCC Sows Football, Goa Velha Saints and Albert’s Princesses (Albert Developers SC).  The players have been selected through a draft system.
