It may be noted that Last week Nestle’s Maggi brand of noodles had come under the scanner after several of their samples tested positive for msg and high levels of lead.

Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Sunday had said the government would enforce a ban on Maggi noodles in the State on Monday adding that he was initially reluctant in doing so but thought it better for the citizens …

Stating that there was no objections as far as casinos were being operated close to the capital city of panjim inside river mandovi director of golden peace hotels & resorts pvt ltd shrinivas nayak has revealed of paying an an amount of rs one crore to the corporation city of panjim by the concerned casino operators for setting up of the state of the art garbage treatment plant in panjim while former ccp mayor surendra furtado said that the money was taken under csr activities …

It may be noted that at a number of occasion a certain no of ccp councilors had raised objections of casinos being operated close from the capital city and even the former ccp mayor surendra Furtado had earlier during his tenure as ccp mayor had stated that he would direct the CCP Commissioner to seal the offices of the off-shore casinos located in the city due to vehicles owned by casino staff and clients were casing congestion on the roads but nothing worked out till date.

What was more surprising was that even though at one side the ccp councilors were shouting from top of their voice against the casino culture blooming up in the capital city at the same time ccp had taken an amount of rs one crore for setting up a garbage treatment plant at patto as informed by the director, of golden peace hotels & resorts pvt ltd shrinivas nayak to media reporters recently …

When this question was put forth before the former ccp mayor surendra furtado as weather the corporation had taken money from the casino operators mr furtado confirmed to goanreporter of taking money from casino operators under csr activities which the ccp commissioner sanjit rodrigues and the ccp council was aware of and were used for procuring certain machinery …

But surprisingly as we went further in to the issue and asked ccp mayor subham chodankar as well as former ccp mayor tony rodrigues if they were aware of any such money being taken by ccp from casino operators both denied stating saying that the issue was never brought to the notice of council meeting and mentioned to verify the facts which they were totally unaware of

07/06/2015 … Director of golden peace hotels & resorts pvt ltd shrinivas nayak whose company also operates casinos like casino pride and casino pride2 has questioned the idea of shifting casinos out from mandovi river even when the casino operators have been following each and every order of the state department

It may be noted that the state government had recently identified rivers like chapora, aguada bay, sal and zuari for the purpose of shifting casino vessels out from river mandovi after which casino operators have unanimously agreed to move their vessels out of river Mandovi provided Goa government provides suitable infrastructure like jetties …

Speaking to goanreporter director, golden peace hotels & resorts pvt ltd shrinivas nayak said that even though there was no real reason for the casinos to be moved out of river mandovi they were ready to comply with the state government decision

Mr nayak said that the casino vessels were there in mandovi river to do casino business and therefore shifting casinos deep in to the see could create various problems specially security wise for casino operators as well as those trying to go on casinos …

Mr nayak requested to the state government to conduct a proper study taking in to consideration the number of employment that had been given by the casino business in the state having more than 10,000 direct employees

Commenting over the issue of goans not to be allowed inside the casinos Mr nayak also stated that the company already had policy where in under 21 was restricted from going inside casinos and even if any goan informed about a goan entering casinos he was been banned from entering

The state nationalist congress party has urged the state government to hand over the entire delimitation process to be held before the municipalities elections in the state to the state election commission fearing of favoritism of municipality wards as per the wants of bjp mla’s …

It may be noted that the state government had decided to hold elections for electing new municipal councils for 11 municipalities around the state on November 1 this year deciding not to hold the municipal election on party lines and also to hold the delimitation process of wards before the elections

Addressing media persons in panjim vice president of the state nationalist congress party jose Philip d’souza said that there was a fear in the mind of the goans there the delimitations process could be done to favour some of the bjp mla’s to get their candidates win in the municipality elections

Mr dsouza said that since there could be certain interference by certain bjp mla’s he was of the opinion that the complete delimitation process to be handled by the state election commission

06/06/2015 … The state ncp party has strongly condemned the statements made by the tourism minister dilip parulkear over the incident of the gangrape case which took place in the coastal belt of north goa where in mr parulekar had said that such incidents done by pettry criminals were bound to take place in touristic spots

It may be noted that on Monday evening two Delhi based women tourists were kidnapped, gang raped, brutally assaulted, and were held to ransom by a gang of five men who posed as police officers from the crime branch and anti-narcotics cell of the Goa police.

The incident occurred at Arpora and the complaint was filed by taxi driver Abhijit Kochrekar whose car was hired by the Delhi based tourists.

The accused identified by police are Ajay Kusbas, a resident of Arpora, Jeevan Pawar, a native of Karwar, Nadeem Khan, a native of Rajasthan, Trevor Joseph, a native of Mumbai and Kamlesh Chowdhury, a native of Hyderabad.

Addressing media persons tourism minister dilip parulekar said that the accused were migrated youngsters and where ever tourist activities were there such minor things were bound to take place

Ncp spokesperson trojano dmello said that he was surprised to know that the tourism minister had termed the tape accused as petty criminals

06/06/2015 … The state government has identified rivers like chapora, aguada bay, sal and zuari for the purpose of shifting casino vessels out from river mandovi …

Though nothing could be finalized in the meeting held between the state government officials and casino operators on Thursday the state government has set up its plans to provide infrastructure in any one of the identified river for the casino’s to be shifted by the end of this years

Addressing media persons after the meet ports minister dilip parulekar said that the government would provide all assistance to ensure the off-shore casinos were shifted by December 2015 and Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar would consulted before taking a final decision

The off-shore casino operators have unanimously agreed to move their vessels out of river Mandovi provided Goa government provides suitable infrastructure like jetties. A feasibility report by the Ports Administration will ascertain where out of the four identified spots, the four vessels will be anchored.

Stating that no more statues were needed to be installed inside the assembly complex Pwd minister sudhin dhavlikar has once again reiterated his desire of installing the life-sized statue of the father of the Opinion Poll, Dr Jack de Sequeira at a tourist spot mentioning the name of city bandodkar football ground to be developed in to a tourist park where in the statue of dr sequirea could be installed for tourist visiting goa if the football stadium was not constructed …

It may be noted that after the demand was made by the children of opinion poll to install a life size statue of dr jack sequiera inside the assembly comples recently the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party legislators consisting of envoirnment minister alina saldanha and calangute mla Michael lobo had urged the government to honour the hero of the Opinion Poll, Dr Jack de Sequeira, by installing a life-sized statue of the leader at the State Assembly complex in Porvorim, next to the statue of the State’s first chief minister Dayanand Bandodkar.

The Goa Assembly had in March 1994 passed a resolution to install a statue of Dr de Sequeira in the Assembly complex. The resolution had been proposed by the then Panjim MLA J B Gonsalves.

Stating that the name of goa had made a brand in international market through events of electronic dance music festivals Calangute mla Michael lobo had come in support of event like sunburn and supersonic to be held in vagator even after the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority had given its no for holding such big events on the beach belts of Candolim and Vagator

It may be noted that In a major blow to the organizers of mega electronic dance music festivals like Sunburn and Supersonic the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority had given its no for holding such big events on the beach belts of Candolim and Vagator, where it’s held annually in December, attracting several lakhs of visitors across the world and had suggested three large sites in south Goa for holding EDM festivals at places like Betul plateau, Cananguinim hill top and Cabo de Rama cliff hill top.

GCZMA was of the view that the site at Candolim cannot be rented out for such a large magnitude commercial event as the area constitutes a sand dune complex, classified as CRZ I, where no activity could be permitted while On the other hand the site at Vagator was best suited for exhibitions and festivals, where the influx is far less compared to the EDM festival attendees.

The concerned authority of GCZMA had reached to such conclusion following site inspection and observation made by the expert members consisting of Dr. Antonio Mascarenhas and Dr Nitin Sawant, who visited the mega event sites- of Candolim on December 31, 2014 and Vagator on January 3, 2015 to gather information whether or not such activities can be damaging to a sensitive coast

Speaking to goanreporter calangute mla Michael lobo said that as long as beach area were not disturbed events like sunburn and supersonic should be allowed in the coastal areas of north goa and authorities of gczma should try and verify if such events were really disturbing the sensitive coast of the coastal areas …

Lobo said that technical people from gczma should be put in to service to verify the facts and as long as no construction or sand dunes were disturbed in to the area …

GCZMA had noted that there should be change in the venue of the mega festivals events held in Goa and hence decided to forward the same to Department of Tourism for comments views as per the minutes of the meeting held on May 26 stated and the experts had also observed that at Candolim large undulating sand dune area was severely trampled upon and vegetation was found uprooted in totality.

Meanwhile former sarpanch and panch member of calangute village panchayat joseph sequiera said that he was against holding such events in calangute constituency as event like sunburn and supersonic were spoiling young goan youths and even there was no proper infrastructure in calangute constituency to hold such events

04/06/2014 … Stating that the file regarding implementing toll tax had passed on to the concerned department without coming back to the chief minister pwd minister sudhin dhavlikar has said that the issue of toll tax was kept on hold at the moment and would be implemented once all stake holders were taken in to confidence

Speaking to goanreporter pwd minister sudhin dhavlikar said that there was no need for any one to get upset on toll tax issue as concerned file had not reached to him and to the office of the chief minister after law department had done its vetting due to which certain misunderstand had taken place

Dhavlikar said that toll tax was only started due to the stoppage of mining activities in the state due to which state government had a huge loss of revenue through mining …
