Singer-Tiatrist Joaquim D’Souza to be honoured with ‘Enterprising Goan of the Year” award at Festival de Goa

Panaji: 21st Aug 2019 :::: Singer-Tiatrist Joaquim Mariano D’Souza, who is a drummer, song-writer and tiatrist, a singer and  a musician in his own right and has released music albums and acted in Tv serials, films and Konkani plays will be honoured by the Goa People’s Front (GPF) as the Enterprising Goan of the Year at the Art, Culture, Music and Fashion event – Festival de Goa, to be held in October-November 2019.

Joaquim who is currently working on a music album and wants to promote music among youth, was seen in a weekend show, which was part of Salman Khan’s reality show Bigg Boss on the Colors channel. 

He has released music albums and promotes and supports Konkani plays, tiatrs and dramas, said Savio Miranda, chairman of the awards committee of the Goa People’s Front. The GPF will be honouring and felicitating 40 enterprising Goans from different fields including art, culture, fashion, music, literature, food and hospitality, sports, politics, medicine, etc.,

According to a media release by the GPF, D’souza is also a well-known builder and developer with his firm Joma Builders having successfully completed several projects in North Goa, a restaurateur and hotelier who owns restaurants and hotels in the State.

The Parra-born Joaquim Mariano D’Souza, who wears many hats is always looking for something new to dabble in. His restaurant on the Mapusa-Calangute road JOMA’S –  a multi-cuisine restaurant with a variety of Goan and Indian dishes will be opened for the new season by the end of August 2019.

Dsouza is very unassuming and down-to-earth. He is a philanthropist and loves to go out of his way to help people. But his love for his beloved Goem is paramount. He speaks passionately about how the State is going down-hill. How employment has become a curse. How Goan youth are going astray because of drugs. How prostitution has taken over the coastal belt, particularly North Goa.  His heart bleeds for Goa and he wants the youth to take up higher education and jobs. His feelings come alive on his face as he speaks about the problems that plague Goa today. The GPF has selected 40 Goans for the awards which will be held at a 5-star location in North Goa at a multi-dimensional event – the Festival de Goa.

Govt. Committed towards upliftment of Society:Dr.Sawant

Panaji, Aug 20th 2019 ::: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that his Goverment is committed towards uplifting of the weaker sections of the society irrespective of cast,creed and religion. The fruits of the development of State should reach to the last person of the Society and therefore he has been working towards it. His Goverment, he said, has been on firm footing and the positive changes are for the overall development of the state.
Dr. Sawant was speaking at the Annual felicitation programme of Akhil Gomantak   Shatriya Maratha Samaj  2018/19 at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao recently. Former Chief Minister and MLA Shri Pratapsing Rane, President Shri Mahesh Gaonkar, Senior vice President Shri Sandeep Desai, Vice President Shri Ulhas Shetty, Secretary Shri Shripad Parab, Treasurer Shri Suhas Phal Desai, Youth President Shri Diptesh Dessai of Akhil Gomantak Shatriya Maratha Samaj (AGSMS) were also present on the occasion.
Chief Minister said he considers Late Atal Bihari Vajpai as his role model who has always given first priority to nation and who inspired him in politics, secondly the Party and thirdly  cnfidence in himself. He said  justice would be done to the Chief Ministers chair which is neither for himself  nor for any particular society but for the betterment of State. Benefits of State comes first, he added
Students from the samaj  who scored highest marks in Standard xth, XXth Graduation or students who has done their post graduation / MBBS/ Ph.D. were felicitated on the occasion.
Appreciating the students for their achievements in education, sports etc. Dr. Sawant urged all the students to take inspiration from the act and knowledge of chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and be Self confident  to achieve highest target for a bright future. Though the importance of Sword is slowly becoming less, we have with us pen and knowledge through which we can be successful he added.
Recalling his school memories when Akhil Gomantak   Kshatriya Maratha Samaj felicitated him after passing Standard Xth, XIIth and BMS.,Dr Sawant said that he will be always indebted of this Society .
Chief Minister referred that around  1500-200 students benefited from Economic Backward Classes (EBC) reservation.
Earlier Jeevan Gourav Puraskar was awarded to freedom fighter Shri Madhukar B N Desai from Culwada, Cuncolim at the hands of Chief Minister.
Earlier the function began with lightning of traditional lamp and ganesh vandana dance performed by members of AGSMS
Shri Vijay Kumar Kopre along with other three compared the function while  Shri Deepak Dessai proposed the vote of thanks.

DIP TO ORGANIZE ALL GOA QUIZ COMPETITION ON  MAHATMA GANDHI

Panaji: August 19, 2019 … The Department of Information and Publicity as part of the commemoration of 150th  Birth Anniversary of Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi at the National level will organize All Goa Quiz competition involving college level students on August 26, 2019.

The topic for the competition is “Mahatma Gandhi-Journey from Mohandas to Mahatma” for all degree college students of Goa. The competition will be held in the main hall of Institute of Menezes Braganza, Panaji  on August 26, 2019 from 2.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.

The competition is a part of the activities to be carried out by the Government  Departments for the commemoration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi for a period of two years from October 2, 2018 to October 2, 2020.

 The competition will be conducted in two phases i.e primary and final round. Each team will comprise of two students. Each college team is to be represented by team of two bonafide students. A college can send maximum of two teams with maximum four students. Top five teams in the order of merit will contest the grand final.

The winners of the competition will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-, Rs.7000/- and Rs.5000/- as first, second and third, prize respectively besides  trophies. Two consolation prizes will also be given. The students desires to participate in the quiz competition can send their entries to the Director of  Department, Information and Publicity, 3rd floor Udyog Bhavan, Panaji Goa before August 24, 2019.

BEING HEALTHY LEADS TO NATION`S GROWTH: CM

Panaji: August 18, 2019 …. Stressing upon importance of physical fitness Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant has urged every individual to be health conscious and inculcate healthy habits in life. He was speaking at an inaugural function of Late. Dr. Manohar Parrikar Memorial 52nd Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior State Level Athletic Championship 2019 held at Athletic Stadium, Bambolim recently.

The Championship was organised by Goa Athletic Association in collaboration with the Sports Authority of Goa, and is dedicated to former Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar.

While addressing the athletes, Dr. Sawant further said that, `An individual who loves his nation and aspires to contribute towards growth of the Country, he should love his own self first by staying healthy. This attitude will definitely attribute to the well being of the nation. Sports could be instrumental to inculcate such values in youngsters.

Chief Minister reiterated that the State has most of the Sports infrastructure in place to host National Games. The National Olympic Committee has now to decide about organisation of National Games. As soon as it makes decision, we will be ready to have National Games in the State, he added.

He also extended greetings to the young athletes for participating in the Championship and urged participants to give their best performance and make it to National, International level sports to bring laurels to the State.

It is informed that around 1500 young athletes from 12 talukas  are  participating in the Championship. which will continue till August 17, 2019.

Secretary, Goa Olympic Association Shri. Gurudatta Bhakta lauded the efforts taken by the State Government to improve Sports Infrastructure in the State.

UMBRELLA SCHEME PROVIDING ASSISTANCE FOR MINING WORKERS SOON: PAUSKAR

Panaji: August 17, 2019 …. Minister for PWD, Shri Deepak Pauskar informed that Government has decided to restart Umbrella Scheme, providing the financial assistance of Rs 5000/- per month to the workers who are working in the mining. The scheme will continue till the mining restarts in the State.

He reiterated Governments commitment to solve the long pending issues of Sanjivani Sugar Factory, Mining activities and Land issues in the State. He assured that Government will make all its efforts to address the issues of workers in the State.

Speaking as Chief Guest after unfurling the national tri-colour and inspecting the guard of honour on the occasion of 73rdanniversary of India’s Independence celebration at Dharbandora today Shri. Pauskar said Government will soon resolve the issue of all the workers on priority of both the industries. He said Sanjivani sugar factory and Mining activity are the economic backbone of Dharbandora taluka, assuring that the Government will spare no effort to let the lone sugar factory in the state shutdown.

Shri Pauskar maintained that Government has initiated various schemes for the benefit of farmers, which however could not be availed due to land issue pertaining to Alvara, kumeri, kul mundkar, Aframet, private forest etc. The Government will resolve the issue of land by May 2020 after which the farmers will enjoy real fruit of independence, he remarked.

Shri Pauskar also congratulated Lt Com. Shri Abhinandan who was honored with Veer Chakar for his bravery during Air Strike in Pakistan. Youth are real wealth of nation, he added.

The students from various school surrounding Dharbandora performed cultural programme on the occasion.

MAINTENANCE AND WELFARE OF PARENTS AND SENIOR CITIZEN ACT-2007 AND GOA RULES 2009

Panaji: August 16, 2019 ….The South Goa District committee for the implementation of Maintenance& Welfare of parents & Senior Citizens Act 2007 and Goa rules 2009 under the Chairmanship of District Collector (S) at its quarterly meeting has decided to make Awarness of the Act and Rights of Senior Citizens for information to General Public at large.

The said Act came into force in the year 2007 and in Goa the Rules were framed and published in the year 2009.

As per the Act “Senior Citizen” means any person who has attained the age of sixty years or above. Under section 5 of “The Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizen Act-2007” any senior citizen including a parent who is unable to maintain herself or himself from his/her own earning or out of the property owned by her/him is entitled to make an Maintenance application.

The application for maintenance has to be filed before the Maintenance Tribunal constituted by the State Government. The state Government has constituted a Maintenance Tribunal for each Sub-Division of the State of Goa presided over by the respective Deputy Collector (Sub-Divisional Officer) for the purpose of adjudicating and deciding upon the order for maintenance vide notification No. 83-9-2006-07-SDB/Part/2008/3846 dated 24/09/2009.

An application for maintenance may be made by a senior citizen/parent or, if he/she is incapable by any other person or Registered organization authorized by applicant or the tribunal may take cognizance suo motu.

As per sub section(17) of “the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007” No party to a proceeding before a tribunal or Appellate Tribunal will be represented by a legal practitioner. However a parent/ senior citizen can be represented by a Maintenance Officer appointed by the State Government if they so desire.

Assistant Director (Welfare of Differently Abled) of Social Welfare Department is appointed as Maintenance Officer for South vide notification No. 83-9-2006-07-SDB/Part/2008/3844 dated 24/09/2019 and Asstt Director (SC & OBC) of Social Welfare Department is appointed as Maintenance Officer for North vide notification No. 83-9-2006-07-SDB/Part/2008/3845 dated 24/09/2009.

The maintenance application has to be disposed off by the Tribunals within 90 days from the date of service of notice of the application to such person. However in certain exceptional cases the Tribunal may extend the said period once to a maximum period of 30 days for reasons to be recorded in writing.

The Maximum maintenance allowance which may be ordered by the Tribunal will not exceed upto Rupees Ten Thousand per month.

Any Senior Citizen or a Parent, as the case may be, aggrieved by an order of a Tribunal may, within sixty days from the date of the order, prefer an appeal to the Appellate Tribunal. The State Government has constituted the Appellate Tribunal for each District of the State of Goa which will be presided over by the respective Collector for the purpose of hearing the appeal against the order of the Maintenance Tribunal under the said Act. vide notification No. 83-9-2006-07-SDB/Part/2008/3847 dated 24/09/2009.

OFFICE OF THE COMMISSIONER, LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT APPEALS TO FILE THE RETURNS THROUGH ONLINE SYSTEM

Panaji: August 15, 2019 …The Office of the Commissioner, Labour and Employment, has requested the Employers, Contractors, Users and Other concerned persons to file their returns in respect of applicable Acts and Rules only through online system on (www.goaonline.gov.in).

The notification in this regards has published in the Official Gazette Government of Goa, Series I No.48 dated 28/02/2019, under order                        No. 24/43/2018-LAB/98.

 As part of ease of doing Business initiative of the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, under Business Reforms Action Plan, has proposed several reforms. Accordingly, the o/o the Commissioner, Labour has accepted the mandate of filing of returns under 10  Labour Laws by online single integrated/consolidated form and maintenance of all registers/records under the Acts and Rules there under in electronic format.

LET’S STRENGTHEN THE LIBRARY MOVEMENT: GAUDE

Panaji, August 14, 2019 … Goa Library and Information Science Convention-2019 (GOA-LIS 2019) to commemorate Librarian’s Day was organised at the Multipurpose Hall, Sanskruti Bhavan, Patto, by Krishna Das Shyama Goa State Central Library, recently. The daylong convention included book launch and paper presentations by librarians across the state.

Minister for Art and Culture Shri. Govind Gaude was the Chief Guest while Secretary for Art and Culture Shri. C.R. Garg IAS, Director of Department of Art and Culture Shri. Gurudas Pilernekar, Curator of Central Library Dr. Carlos Fernandes and Sr. Librarian Smt. Samiksha Kolmule were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion Shri. Gaude urged the librarians and library attendants to work with dedication. “Your work may enlighten someone’s life and many a times you are unaware about it. A librarian opens up knowledge doors for an individual and guides him/her in choosing the right path.  They play a pivotal role in creating healthy environment. Books are our friends for life and hence, let us work to build up the reading habit among people and strengthen the library movement,” the Minister said.

Earlier, the function commenced by lighting the ceremonial lamp. The Minister later released in-house publications – Annual Report 2018-19, Ruzvonn-Tiatr Index, Pakhllio-Index of Articles from Goan Observer, Kurpanne-An index of library science articles, Yadintle Goem-Index of photograph from Portuguese books and GOA-LIS 2019 Seminar Volume by Dr. Carlos Fernandes and Team, and Goa Public Library Act, 1993 in Konkani and Marathi by Shri. Milind Mhamal. The Minister also felicitated Security Guards of the library Shri. Namdeo Gokarnekar, Shri. Devdatt Kankonkar, Shri. Dashrath Sawardekar and Shri. Deepak Gawas for their brave acts shown in the past. This was followed by paper presentation by participants.

Dr. Carlos Fernandes gave the welcome address while Shri. Pilernekar briefed about LIS-GOA 2019. Shri. Garg, IAS also spoke on the occasion. Shri. Pradip Naik compered the function while Smt. Kolmule proposed the vote of thanks.

          The function was attended by librarians from college, Taluka, district and NGO across the state.

CM LAUNCHES DIGITAL DIABETESE REGISTRY

Panaji: August 13, 2019 … Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has said, Goa will be known for creating digital diabetes registry in the country. The Chief Minister was speaking at a launching  function of nations first digital diabetes registry in partnership with Novo Nordisk Education Foundation in city recently.

Speaking further the Chief Minister lauded the endeavor of Health Minister and the doctors who are instrumental in the initiative of launching of Digital Diabetese Registry. He appealed to work together to reduce the number of diabetic patients in the state.

Addressing the launching ceremony Minister for Health Shri Vishwajit Rane said that diabetes is on the rise in Goa.  Diabetes is the silent killer He luaded the role of the Chief Minister and other stakeholders for the purpose to curb the rise of diabetes and helped the people to get rid of the menace. He urged to work on various reasons which lead to diabetes. He also called for the need to follow precautions, proper diet, exercise and timely treatment will help to control diabetes he added.

The Legendary Cricketer and brand Ambasador, Novo Nordisk Shri Anil Kumble in his address expressed his happiness for being part of the noble initiative of launching digital diabetes Registry for the people in Goa.   He praised the Government for taking such excellent step for the welfare of the people. He said that diabetes has strong relationship with changing life style, lack of exercise and inconsistency leads to develop complications. Therefore he urged the people to secure proper advice and guidance and health tips and follow precautions to arrest the growth of diabetes.

The Director of Health Services Dr. Jose Disa welcomed the guests.

The Managing Trustee-NNEF, Shri Melwin D’Souza gave detailed talk on topic changing diabetes, Barometer & Registry.

TWO-DAY IRC MEETING BEGINS IN GOA

Panaji: August 12, 2019 ….“We have to strengthen infrastructure by putting emphasis on quality infrastructure using modern technology,” said Minister for Public Works Department (PWD), Shri Deepak Prabhu Pauskar who was speaking as the Chief Guest at the inauguration of two-day Indian Roads Congress (IRC) 218th Mid-Term Council Meeting, held in Dona Paula, recently.

The Indian Roads Congress (IRC) is the Apex Body of road sector engineers and professionals in the country.  Shri Pauskar informed that the State authorities were looking into solving issues such as land acquisition which would help in the development of National Highways in the State.

Chief Secretary, Shri Parimal Rai, IAS, in his address said that roads are the interface between a person and the place. He said that engineers and administrators have to find innovative means to address issues. Shri Rai further said that often times there are techniques offering solutions in theory but these are not implemented in practice because many prefer the easy way of building roads. He said, “We must think of time and cost effective solutions.”

Earlier, Principal Chief Engineer, PWD, Shri Uttam  Parsekar in his welcome address said that Goa had entered into the Golden phase of infrastructure building in the State. The President of IRC, Shri Toli  Basar briefed the gathering about the activities of the IRC.

Souvenirs of IRS Council Meeting and 13 IRC Documents were released on the occasion.
