Training underway for new lifeguard recruits

Panaji, Nov 05, 2019: Drishti recently put out a call for Lifeguard captains inviting individuals interested in pursuing a career in lifeguarding. Goan graduates in any discipline with knowledge of swimming are eligible to apply. Drishti has been willing to continue the employment of a majority of the lifeguards who have stayed away from work.

Meanwhile, a team of highly skilled and dedicated lifeguards is being added to the force. Lifesaving trainings are underway for the team of 19 lifeguards and lifeguard captains. On successful completion of the course, the individuals will be inducted into the lifeguard force which mans and patrol’s the coast of Goa. 16 of the new recruits hail from parts of Goa.

The beach lifeguard training programmes are being conducted in several batches. Sessions include team building exercises, Patient Recovery, CPR & Recovery position practices, . Rescue Tube techniques & practices, Hand Signals & methods of Communication, Patrolling, Flag systems, Swim zones & Hazard regions, Surf Awareness, Tides & Currents among other sessions.

All beaches continue to be manned effectively by a team of highly skilled lifeguards, supervisors and trainers. In addition the company has deployed additional equipment and resources to augment any operational gaps. The beaches are well supervised and safe for visitors.

All visitors are advised to listen to the lifeguards and restrict their entry into the water due to the weather and alert put out by the CoP.

ALL PARTY DELEGATION MEETS SHRI PRAKASH JAVDEKAR

Panaji: November 4, 2019…..Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant who led an All Party Delegation from Goa today met Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Prakash Javdekar and discussed matter related to Mhadei.

The Delegation submitted a representation to the Union Minister Shri Javdekar in connection with Kalasa-Bhandura project. The Delegation also held talks with the Union Minister as regard to the letter issued by his Ministry to Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Ltd. concerning Kalasa-Bhandura project.

The Minister was kind enough to assure a written communication on the aforesaid matter within 10 days. Every member expressed his views. After listening to the Delegation, Shri Javdekar assured to extend his support to protect the interest of the state & its people.

SATYA PAL MALIK SWORN IN AS GOA GOVERNOR

Panaji: November 3, 2019 ….Shri. Satya Pal Malik was sworn in as Governor of Goa today. He was administered the oath of office by the Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Justice Pradeep Nandrajog at a function organised at Raj Bhavan (Tarmac), Dona Paula.

Earlier Chief Secretary Shri. Parimal Rai, IAS read out the warrant of appointment. Shri. Malik was appointed Governor of Goa by the President Shri. Ram Nath Kovind on October 25, 2019.

The Governor was later presented a Guard of Honour by the Goa Police contingent.

GOVT WITHDRAWS ATTESTATION OF NOC BEFORE SDM FOR WIDOWS

Panaji :: November 2, 2019… The Government has withdrawn the requirement of an NOC of a Widow to be signed before Deputy Collector with immediate effect

The Order to that effect has been issued by the government on October 31, 2019, whereby, all said circulars, orders and instructions have been withdrawn with immediate effect regarding transactions of land which includes sale, gift, mutation, power of attorney by Widows.

With the aforesaid order, the concerned public and stake holders who were made to obtain NOC of a Widow sworn before the Deputy Collector for sale of each flat, plot or tenement are now relieved of the same.

The issue was deliberated before Minister for Revenue, Smt. Jennifer Monserrate and Secretary(Revenue), Shri Sanjay Kumar by representatives of several institutions and concerned affected common people. The order will be a big relief to all Widows based in the State, abroad and to the people at large who were severely distressed due to the same.

HOME DEPARTMENT CLARIFIES ON GOVERNMENT JOBS TO CHILDREN OF FF’S

Panaji: November 01, 2019 ….. The Home Department has clarified that since the notification of scheme to provide jobs to children of freedom fighters in the year 2013, 148 children of freedom fighters have been provided Government jobs from amongst the 406 children of freedom fighters registered in the Home Department under the scheme for Employment in Government to the children of freedom fighters.

The Government has already initiated the process for inviting vacancies reserved for children of Freedom Fighter from various Departments and the scrutiny regarding suitability of the eligible candidates to the various posts has been completed and the Government will soon fill the vacancies reserved for the children of Freedom Fighter which is a present 5% for Group C posts. As regards the Gazetted posts the reservation for children of Freedom Fighter is 2% which would be filled by way of recruitment process through GPSC.

 The Government is keen on accommodating the children of Freedom Fighters in government jobs to best extent possible within the provisions of the said scheme and as per the Recruitment Rules in force. The Government has therefore extended the validity of the said scheme upto to February 28, 2021.

The clarification has been issued in view of news reports in a section of print media that agitation is declared on November 6, 2019 by the children of Freedom Fighter for alleged failure of the Government to provide job to the children of Freedom Fighter and other allegations regarding non allotment of land, etc.

STRENGTHEN UNITY OF THE NATION- SHRI PRABHUDESAI

Panaji: October 31,2019 … The Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs in association with the Department of Police organized Unity March to commemorate birth anniversary of the first Deputy Prime Minister of India Sardar VallabhBhai Patel at Campal today. The renowned football player and Arjun Awardee Shri Bruno Coutinho flagged off the march at Campal. The troop of Police personnel and Indian Reserve Battalion stationed at Mahavir garden joined the march and culminated at Azad Maidan.

The Director of Sports & Youth Affairs Shri V.M Prabhudesai, Assistant Director, Sports and Youth Affairs Smt. Jenifer Gonsalves , APEO Shri Naguesh Huddar, and others from Police Department included  were Superintendent of Police Shri Bosco George IPS,  DYSP Shri Anthony Monserrate, Police Inspector Shri Somnath Majik, Police Sub Inspectors Shri Vikram Naik and  Shri Vaibhav Naik, Staff of Police and Sports Department Students of various schools, NCC cadets participated in the march.

Shri Prabhudesai  informed that the Government has organized Unity Run in all  talukas of the State. The objective of the Unity March is to spread the message of great leader Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who always stood for the cause of United India.  He was instrumental in mobilizing the people for freedom movement of the country. It was under his initiative many princely states were made to merge  in Indian federation. He called upon the youth to uphold the ideal of Sardar Patel for united India. Further urged youth to work to strengthen the unity and integrity of the nation.

TRAINING PROGRAMME  FOR MID -DAY MEAL SCHEME HELD

Panaji: October 30, 2019 …..The Directorate of Education had organized a training programme for Cook-Cum-Helpers under the Mid Day Meal Scheme in all the 12 talukas of the State of Goa covering North Education Zone, Central Education Zone and South Education Zone.

          The purpose of the training programme was to train the Cook-Cum-Helpers and the Self Help Groups/ Mahila Mandal/ P.T.A on Food Handling, Serving, Personal hygiene, Use of Local Seasonal Vegetables, Kitchen Gardening and Nutritious cooking practices.

          The Resource Persons for the Training Programme were the Nutrition Experts Varsha Bhide and Manasi Kudchakar. Varsha Bhide spoke on personal hygiene and different aspects of hygiene and food safety and food handling. Manasi Kudchadkar spoke on importance of nutritious cooking practices, use of local seasonal vegetables and kitchen gardening.

Taluka level cooking competition for Self Help Groups/ Mahila Mandal/ P.T.A was organized on the topic “Healthy and Nutritious Food item for Children”. The programme was followed by the Prize distribution by the A.D.E.I’s at the taluka level dealing with Mid -Day Meal Scheme.

Assistant Director of Education Maria Rose Grace D’Souza welcomed the participants of each Training Programme and spoke on the importance of health and hygiene. Vocational Education Officer Jaywant Naik explained the importance of quality of Mid Day Meals and proposed the vote of thanks.

APPLICATIONS INVITED FOR BEST SOCIAL WORKER

Panaji: October 29, 2019 … The Directorate of Social Welfare has invited applications from Goan Social Workers for awarding Best Social Worker awards to 12 social workers, one each from every taluka irrespective of gender.  The best social worker will be felicitated with cash award of Rs. 25,000/- certificate, shawl and Shrifal.

Prescribed applications forms are available at the counter  of the Directorate of Social Welfare, Panaji free of cost  Applications in prescribed format duly filled in all respect and accompanied with photo copies of the documents attested by Gazette officer or self attested in soft copy CD and hard copy should reach Directorate  of  Social Welfare  on or before  November 22, 2019.  State Award will be presented on December 19, 2019 by Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on the occasion of Goa Liberation Day.

CHIEF MINISTER REVIEWS EXPENDITURE OF VARIOUS DEPARTMENTS

Panaji::: October 28, 2019 … …Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant today reviewed the expenditure of various departments as on September 30, 2019. The Chief Minister informed that Overall percentage of expenditure is about 32%, Revenue Expenditure is about 38% and Capital Expenditure is 20%.  Total expenditure as on September 30, 2019 is Rs. 6612 Crores.

The expenditure corresponding to same period during previous year is about 32%.
The Chief Minister reviewed major 48 departments which comprises of about 86% of the total outlay.

The Chief Minister instructed the authorities to review the expenditure periodically so that atleast 70% of expenditure is incurred before December 2019. He further informed all the HoDs to utilize funds received from the Central  Government optimally and submit UCs periodically. He also instructed the HoDs to expertise resource mobilisation.

`200 FAMOUS GOANS` BOOK RELEASED

Panaji : October 27, 2019 ……Minister for Art and Culture Shri. Govind Gaude along with Padmabhushan  Laximan Pai released a book of photo introduction by late Vandana Seth  incorporating personalities of 200 famous Goans who have contributed towards betterment of State coming from varied realm of arts, culture, theatre, sports, literature, films, singing, music, medicine etc.

The function was organized by friends circle of Vandana Seth and Sahit Prakashan held at Sanskruti Bhavan Patto Panaji yesterday.

The book contains photo introduction  of famous 200 personalities of Goa and their respective field of work they belong. The book is an initiative to acknowledge the tireless efforts made by those personalities to bring laurels to the State at national and international level.

On the occasion Minister Shri. Govind Gaude said that it was commendable effort to publish book as such  that showcased these famous Goans in front  of Goan community at large.  The book also pays tribute and honor to those goan who have made huge contribution towards state and society.

The book would be inspiration for young generation to work much harder and get success in their respective fields Minister added.

Publisher of the book Shri. Kishor Arjun informed that, the book is unfinished project of renowned jounalist late Vandana Seth, who had compiled Goan personalities. Unfortunately this project came to halt after she died in an accident. Thereafter Friends circle of Vandana Seth came forward to publish this book as tribute to her. Since the book contains only photographs of people, this  could be  beginning of new book comprising more numbers of Goan personalities with details.These personalitirs were chosen during 60 days time period till May 31, 2015 conidering popularity, transpatency, google coverage, face book, Achievement,Media covetage, rwitter, performances, books, television, news and more.

Historian Shri. Prajal Sakhardande, who wrote foreword for the book in his speech said that the book will aid students and people of Goa in knowing about these 200 famous personalities  and stand informed of their respective field.

Personalities who found the place in the book are Late Manohar Parrikar, Dayanand Bandodkar, Kishori Amonkar, Hema Sardessai, Ragunath Mhashelkar, Varsha Usgaonkar, Shri Shripad Naik, Shri Pratapsingh Rane, Vasantrao Dempo, Srinivas Dempo, Dilip Sardessai, Dattaraj Salgaoncar, Shivanand Sagaonkar/ Natasha Palha, Shadab Jakati,  Mario Miranda, Dayanand Narvekar, Lorna Cordeiro, Damodar Naik, Vijay Sardessai, Ashalata Wabgaonkar, Rajdeep Sardessai, Mathany Saldanha, Ivana Furtado, Subhash Velingkar, Bruno Coutinho, V. M. Salgaonkar,  Lata Mangueshkar, Asha Bhosle,  Eduardo Faleiro, Shri Digambar Kamat, PrinceJacob, John D’Silva and others.
