SHRI MANDREKAR CALLS FOR AWARNESS AMONG ROAD USERS

Panaji: September 25, 2016 …. Expressing concern over the growing incidents of accidents in the state, Minister for Water Resources Shri. Dayanand Mandrekar recently stressed the need to create awareness among the road users to ensure safety to their life and minimize accidents in the state.

Inaugurating the 6th State Road Safety Week 2016 celebration being organized by by Directorate of Transport, Mapusa on the Theme “Love Safety, Marry Rules, Divorce Speed at Fr. Agnel Institute of Technology and Design Assagoa in Bardez Taluka. Shri. Mandrekar mentioned that the number of accidents that are occurring on roads 98.5 percent accounts due to man made errors which includes over speeding, rash and reckless driving. In the context the minister emphasized the need for road safety and traffic discipline among the road users besides to obey traffic rules, youth succumbing to injuries caused due to accidents is a matter of concern he added.

Speaking further Shri. Mandrekar also highlighted the need to have presence of mind while driving, walking and also while crossing the road.

The Function was also attended by Dr.V. Mariappan, Principle of Agnel Institute, Fr. Sebastiao Rodrigues, Asst. Director (ATEC), Shri. Sunil Masurkar, Director of Transport, Gurudas Narvekar, Dy. Director for Transport, Shri. Roland Martins, Convener, GOA CAN and Shri. Narayan Rathvad, Senior Journalist.

MPT SIGNS MOU FOR BERTH REDEVELOPMENT IN THE PRESENCE OF UNION MINISTER

 Panaji: 23 September , 2016…Towards  Strengthening  Mormugao Port Trust  (MPT) and economy of Goa yesterday concessions of agreement for the Project of Redevelopment of Berths 8, 9, and  Barge Berth between Mormugao  Port Trust and Goa Seaport private Limited were Signed in the Presence of Union Minister of Shiping, Highways And Road Transport Shri. Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minster, Shri Laxmikant Parsekar , similarly Project of 200 KV solar installation at MPT was inaugurated by the Union Minister during the programme held at a Hotel in Miramar.

Speaking on the occasion Shri Gadkari  expressed confidence that both these projects will boost Economical growth of State.  We are a fast growing economy in the world, and therefore our ports needs to developed. To reduce the cost of transport or logistic in economical sector, it very important to develop infrastructure for ports, he said. Union Minister further informed about Sagarmala project which will bring  investment in the tune of around 12 lacs crores towards waterways, Ports and coastal areas development, through which Goa state is going to be benefited directly in many aspects.  Union Minister while expressing  serious  concerns on rising road Accidents informed that his ministry has allocated Rs. 11 thousands crore  to do away with Accident prone zones. Till now 786 lacs accident prone zones have been identified in the country, he told. And also asked the Goa govt to find out Such accident prone zones, which can be repaired with central funds.

Chief Minister Shri. Laxmikant  Parsekar lauded various initiaves  and Schemes instituted  by Union Minister Shri Gadkari for State Goa. Union Minister Shri Gadkari always remained on forefront to approve various Scheme and projects for Goa. There were many infrastructural projects  in sector of Road Transport and mobility awaited for long time, which could get started only after Shri Gadkari took charged as a Union Minister.

Concession of Agreement were signed by  Shri. I.J.kumar, Chairman of MPT and Shri. Ashok Kumar Director of Goa Seaport Private limited. On this occasion Shri. Milind Naik Power Minister. Shri. R.K. Srivastava chief secretary of Goa were present.

STATE LEVEL SELF-HELP GROUP CONCLAVE IN PANAJI

September 22, 2016“There are funds from the Central government are meant to ameliorate urban living conditions in Goa but there needs to be systems  in place in the community where these funds can be utilized,” said Shri Francis D’Souza, Deputy Chief Minister of Goa. He was speaking at the state level self-help group conclave that was held in Panaji on Thursday.

In his address, he listed out the various schemes of the government, aimed at reducing the financial burden on Goans. He said, “The municipalities need to co-operate with the government so that schemes are successfully implemented.”

Goa State Urban Livelihoods Mission’s Director, Shri Elvis Gomes, who was present on the occasion said, “The task of municipalities is more than just the cleaning of gutters. It has the responsibility of poverty alleviation in urban areas.” He further spoke of the mission’s aim of poverty alleviation and urban development.

Several women from the women’s self help group were felicitated. A few also shared their successful and inspiring stories. Shri Sumeet Singh, co-coordinator of Smart Colony, Smart Ward initiative, spoke of the Jodhpur model of city development that they were following. A booklet Day-Nulm was released on the occasion. Also present were the Commissioner of the Corporation of Panaji, Shri Dipak Dessai and the chairpersons of various municipalities.

The program was organised by the Goa State Urban Livelihoods Mission under the Goa State Urban Development Agency and supported by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation.

Earlier, Project Consultant, Celsa Antao welcomed the gathering while the Chief Project Officer, Jagdish Hosamani, proposed the vote of thanks.

BRICS YOUTH FORUM CONCLUDES

Peaceful environment and harmony in this state will surely help in boosting the intellectual values and dialogues between the BRICS countries,” the Governor of Goa Dr.Smt. Mridula Sinha said at the valedictory function of BRICS Youth forum 2016. She also ensured full support from the State Government to the upcoming BRICS 2016 Summit.

The Governor further said that the BRICS countries should try and share technology, economic trade and commerce amongst each other to build a strong society. We must together set goals for sustainable growth. Issues such as climate change, health, malnutrition, poverty and unemployment can be conquered by coming together at a forum like this.

TRANSPORT MINISTER SHRI. SUDIN DHAVLIKAR INAUGURATES ROAD SAFETY WEEK

 Panaji: September 20, 2016 …. Minister for Transport Shri Ramkrishna alias Sudin Dhavlikar inaugurated 6th State Road Safety Week which will be observed by Directorate of Transport from 19th to 25thSeptember 2016. Other dignitaries who were present on the occasion at Institute Menezes Braganza hall, Panjim were M L A of Taleigao constituency Mrs. Jennifer Monserrate, Mayor of corporation of the city of Panaji Shri. Surendra Furtado, Convener of Goa CAN Shri. Roland Martins, Shri. Sunil Masurkar director for Directorate of Transport, Shri Prakash Azavedo Deputy Director and Gurudas Narvekar Deputy Director.

          Love safety, Marry rules, Divorce speed is the theme of this week.

          While addressing Minister Shri Dhavalikar said that, motor vechicle act is the central act which was last amended in the year 1984 and 1998 and further amending the act this year also is in process. Rules in the motor vechicle act will be amended and strict rules will be included Shri. Dhavlikar said. Shri. Dhavlikar further said that Goa is observing road safety week since 2010. Goa Government has taken up the four laning of National Highways, State Highways and major district roads, Work of which will start in the next five years in big way. Shri Dhavlikar further stated that it is decided by Union Ministry of Road and Transport to include road safety lessons at Std. 8th, 9th and 10th syllabus by next academic year. This practice will be implemented in all states of India he remarked.

CM INAUGURATES INDIA FIRE AND SECURITY YATRA 2016

Panaji: September 20, 2016 …. Chief Minister Shri. Laxmikant  Parsekar has opined that, syllabus regarding fire and road safety and also  cleanliness initiatives (Swacch Bharat) needs to be incorporated in School curriculum as safety of people has  become most important. 

Chief Minister  was recently speaking at an inauguration function  of  India Fire and Security yatra 2016, organised by Fire and Security Association of India, at hotel Taj Vivanta Panjim. 

Chief Minister Shri Parsekar  further said that Goa being a touristic  State, requires to be safe in every aspect. Although we don’t have Skyscrapers as compared to cities like Mumbai, but we have lot many crowded places which are very much vulnerable for fire or other unfortunate incidents. Also recently the State has witnessed many calamities.  Besides tourist destination, this state is becoming  a venue for many international conferences.  Hence fire safety and Security gains utmost importance in the State.  He also appreciated various initiatives taken by Fire and Security Association in order to  achieve fire security in the country.  He also commended the efforts carried by Fire and emergency department with cooperation of Fire and Security Association to create awareness among educational institutions.

Chief Secretary Shri. R.K. Srivastava in his Speech urged the people to  give importance for Safety measures, as deaths due to fire and road accidents are on high rise. Shri. Pankaj Dharkar ,  National chairman of Fire  and Security Association briefed about various works done by their Association. Captain Garry Singh gave presentation about project aims to Safe and Secure Goa. Dr. Muktesh Chander, Director General of Police,  Shri. Ashok Menon, Director of Fire and Emergency Services were present on the occasion. Many companies exhibited modern equipments of fire and safety.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE AT ICG

Panaji: September 20, 2016 …. Vidya Prabodhini College of Commerce, Education, Computer and Management, Porvorim and Goa International Centre, Donapaula (ICG) in collaboration with Asian Association for Biological Education will conduct an International Conference from September 21 – 24, 2016 at the ICG Campus, Donapaula. LEGAL LITERACY CAMP HELD AT CAMPAL

Panaji: September 19, 2016 … The North Goa District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Panaji in collaboration with Goa College of Home Science, held a Legal Literacy Camp on ‘Awareness on the topics-Pre natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, Consumer Form, Entitlement of Legal Aid and Domestic Violence Act’ on September 16, 2016 at the college campus in Campal. Judicial Officer, Secretary Smt. Shabnam Shaikh spoke on behalf of  DLSA  about entitlement of free legal aid and brought to the notice of the members the work and activities that DLSA conducts. Adv. Shubhalaxmi Raikar, Adv. Caroline Colaso and Adv. Vahida Yelgar discussed issues such as Domestic Violence Act, Consumer Protection Act etc.
