COMMENDATION  CERTIFICATE AWARDED TO SECURITY PERSONNEL

Panaji, June 9,  2017 … The Goa Human Resource Development Corporation (GHRDC) awarded a commendation certificate and a cash award to assistant security supervisor Shri Gauresh Velip for showing presence of mind and devotion to duty while performing  his security duties at Primary Health Centre (PHC), Balli. He averted the theft of a Bolero Vehicle the property of PHC, Balli on January 6, 2017 at 2.45 am thus protecting Government property. Showing presence of mind on hearing some noise at night he alone walked to the site and thwarted the attempt to steal a Government vehicle.


Mr. MD Phal, Managing Director and Lt Col Austin Collaco, General Manager (Security) and others were present during the presentation of the Award ceremony.

SKILL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP ORGANISED FOR ITI STUDENTS

June 7, 2017 … Directorate of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship in collaboration with Directorate General of Training, M/o.SD&E, GoI, Regional Directorate of Apprenticeship Training (Western Regional), Mumbai organised an ‘Apprenticeship & NAPS Awareness Workshop’ today at Kala Academy, Campal. Secretary-Labour and Employment Smt. Padma Jaiswal, IAS was the Chief Guest for the function.

          Shri Nitin Kunkaliekar, Secretary-Industries Shri. Sudhir Mahajan IAS, Executive Director-Sports Shri. Govind Jaiswal IAS, Chairman of AII Shri Atreya Sawant, Shri. Rajkumar Kamat, Shri. S. Harinath Babu and Director of Skill Development Shri Alexio D’Costa were also present on the occasion.

          Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Jaiswal said that without skill development the education will not be able to translate into the employment figures in the country. “The government has taken various initiatives for increasing skills proportion, development and population. With coming of National Skill Development Council chaired by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is monitoring the projects and progress of younger generation. A lot of funds have been given to this department.

          It is up to the youth how much skill they acquire and overcome challenges. This workshop will resolve all the challenges and misconception pertaining to this field. The skill gap is prevalent and workshop is built to sort this issue too,” she said.     

          Shri Nitin Kunkaliekar also spoke on the occasion. Shri. Alexio D’Costa welcomed while Shri J.J. Caldeira proposed vote of thanks. The program was attended by students and teachers from various ITI.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY CELEBRATED

 Panaji: June 6,2017 … The Department of Environment in association with Goa State Pollution Control Board organized function to mark the celebration of World Environment Day at Patto in the city today.

Chief Secretary, Shri. Dharmendra Sharma and Chairman of GSPCB in his address called for the need to protect environment for a better living. The deterioration of environment he said, will cost us in occurrence of natural calamities therefore it is need of the hour to work to preserve our nature and environment he added.

Principal Secretary Forest & Environment, Dr. Ranbir Singh speaking on the occasion impressed upon the reality and complexity of environment and how living beings depend on it. Clean and fresh air is essential for healthy living. The celebration of World Environment Day is an occasion for us to introspect in regards of our onus to safeguard nature and environment. In order to connect with nature we have to understand nature being in close rapport of nature.

Prof. M.K. Janardanam, Dean,  Environment Science, Goa University in his keynote address stressed on the need  to understand environment  to connect with the nature. In order to make awareness among the people we have to educate people on the importance of environment and its protection he reiterated.

      To mark the celebration the GSPCB organized competitions like quiz and poster painting  for the children of staff in the different age category. The winners of the age category of 5 years were Mast. Fayelianne Rodrigues, Miss Analee Kay Fernandes and Miss Lisa A Fernandes who won first second and third prizes respectively. While Miss Shreya Sukhatankar, Miss Bhargavi  Prabhudesai and Miss Arya Kavalekar from the age category of 6 to 12 won first, second and third prizes respectively. Whereas the prizes of the age category of 12 to 14 were won by Mast. Ayush S. Naik, Mast. Dipen Arlekar and Andrea Dias who secured first, second and third prizes respectively.                                                                                                                                                                                  

       Shri Shivanand Salelkar, Senior Environmental Engineer GSPCB, Staff of Dept. Of Environment and others attended the function.

Shri Sujit Dongre, CEE compered the function while Shri Mohan Girap earlier welcomed the guests and there after proposed the vote of thanks.

HSC EXAM WILL COMMENCE FROM JUNE 8

June 5, 2017 … Higher Secondary Certificate Examination conducted by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Alto Betim will commence from June 8, 2017 and conclude on June 14, 2017.

 The detailed date sheet in respect of HSSC June 2017 is hosted on its official website www.gbshse.gov.in .

 The examination will be conducted at Shri Ganesh Higher Secondary School, Ganeshpuri, Mapusa, Bardez and Government Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, Borda,  Margao, Salcette.

 The examination will commence at 9.30 a.m. in the morning session and at 2.30 p.m. in the afternoon session. Candidates are advised to be present at their respective centres of examinations 30 minutes prior to the commencement of the examination. Candidates offering the subject Konkani Language II may note that the examination in the subject Konkani Language is re-scheduled on June 15, 2017 at 9.30 a.m. There is no change in examination dates in other subjects.

COMMEMORATION OF GOA REVOLUTION DAY

June 4, 2017 … The Governor, Dr. (Smt) Mridula Sinha along with the Chief Minister of Goa, Shri. Manohar Parrikar will lead the State in paying tributes to the freedom fighters at the Martyr’s Memorial at Azad Maidan in Panaji on June 18.  The function will begin at 8.45 am.

Shri. Chandrakant Pednekar, President of Goa, Daman and Diu Freedom Fighters Association Panaji-Goa and Shri. Pandurang Kuncolienkar, President of Freedom Fighters Association Goa, Ponda-Goa will deliver an address on the occasion. The choir group of Bal Bhavan will sing patriotic songs.

On the same day, the programme for Goa Revolution Day at Margao, where the Minister for Town and Country Planning, Shri. Vijai Sardesai will be the Chief Guest, will be held at the Lohia Maidan from 8.30 am onwards while the programme for Goa Revolution Day at Ponda, where the Minister for Public Works Department (PWD), Shri. Ramkrishna alias Sudin Dhavalikar will be the Chief Guest, will be held at the Kranti Maidan.

Goa Revolution Day is significant in Goa’s history because it was June 18, in the year 1946, that freedom fighter Dr Ram Manohar Lohia gave a call to the people asking them to fight the colonial power that was ruling Goa. This call in turn boosted the freedom struggle in Goa.

WEEKLY REVIEW OF ESSENTIAL COMMODITIES FOR THE WEEK ENDING

Panaji, June 3,  2017 …  In Panaji Centre for the week ending May 30, 2017, in wholesale, the prices of  eggs large decreased by Rs. 30/- per 100 nos during the week.

The prices of other important essential commodities like parboiled rice outside, raw rice common, wheat Khandva, wheat Shivri,  turdal Barshi, moongdal, gramdal,, moong, gram Kabuli big, sugar S-30, gur fine, vegetable ghee “Ruchi” rawa, maida, green peas, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, chillies green, and bananas (Vassai) remained steady during the week.

            In the retail sector, the prices of  turdal Barshi, gramdal decreased by Rs. 10/- per kilo respectively and eggs large by Rs. 3/- to Rs. 4/- per dozen. Moongdal increased by Rs. 10/- per kilo during the week.

The prices of other important essential commodities like parboiled rice local, parboiled rice outside, raw rice common, wheat Khandva, wheat Shivri, jowar Shalu, moong, gram Kabuli big, sugar S-30, gur fine, coconut oil, vegetable ghee “Dalda” pkt. of 1 liter, rawa, maida, green peas, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, chilies green, and banana (Vassai) remained steady during the week.

          The decrease in wholesale prices and decrease and increase in retail prices were due to decrease in wholesale prices in supplying markets.

The supply position of important essential commodities were normal during the week, except that of parboiled rice local, jowar Shalu, groundnut oil ordinary and coconut oil, the arrival of which was not noticed during the week.

TOURISM MINISTER INAUGURATES TRADE SHOW

Panaji, June 1,  2017 … The Minister for Tourism, Shri. Manohar Ajgaonkar inaugurated the third edition of the Food Hospitality World (FHW) Goa at the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee indoor stadium in Taleigao today. Speaking on the occasion, Shri. Ajgaonkar said, “I welcome such trade shows to Goa because it is good for local businesses in Goa be it hotels or restaurants as through such shows one can network and the chance to do business increases greatly.”

Shri. Ajgaonkar added further, “Goa is a gift from God.  It is a heaven blessed with natural beauty and architecture. Those who are working in the sector of hospitality in Goa through such shows will get necessary information that will help them increase the tourist flow to Goa.”  

Chairperson of Hospitality Purchase Managers Forum, Shri. Mohan Deshpande, said, that such shows will help local businesses to procure quality products at best prices in Goa.

Also present was Chef Ranjeet Pandey, the President of Culinary Forum of Goa among others.

The trade show features over 5000 product categories and over 300 international brands. There will also be sessions based on industry topics during the show. Some of the highlights of this edition are the trade show’s live workshops and culinary competitions.

WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY OBSERVED AT MARGAO

panaji: May 31, 2017 … The South Goa District Collector, Shri Swapnil Naik, IAS, flagged off a rally to observe the World No Tobacco Day from the District Collectorate office, Margao, today.  May 31 is observed as the World No Tobacco Day. The theme for this year is “Tobacco – A threat to development”.

 Shri Naik speaking informally highlighting the various ill effects of Tobacco stressed the need to create the required awareness among the people to have the desired results.

 He said “Punitive actions do not help all the time.  We need to convince the people to give up the habits of tobacco.  For this we need to create awareness on this front.”

 He said South Goa District which has worked tirelessly to make it Smoke Free has been putting in lot of efforts to maintain it by initiating actions as per COTPA apart from creating awareness programmes all throughout the year.

The rally was organised by the District Administration in association with Urban Health Centre, Margao, National Tobacco Control Programme, Nehru Yuva Kendra and Goa Can.

Students of various institutions participated in the rally.   Street plays at prominent places were also presented by these students.
