ARMY TO DISPLAY BAND FOR PUBLIC ON AUG. 13

Panaji: August 6, 2017 … The pipes and drums band of Corps of signals (Army) will be on display at the Garcia de Orta, CCP  Park at Panaji on August 13, 2017 at 6 pm. The event is open to public being organized by 2 Signals Training Regiment on the occasion of Independence Day which will help our  young generation to know the Army.

UDAAN: PROJECT GIVES WINGS TO GIRL STUDENTS

Panaji: August 3, 2017 … Sunshine Worldwide School, Old Goa is designated as the centre for CBSE Udaan project. CBSE Udaan program for classes 11 and 12 Girls is an initiative by the CBSE for mentoring girl students to compete for admission at India’s Premier Engineering institutions.

Sunshine Worldwide School has been selected as the City Centre for UDAAN, a project to give wings to girl students who aim to pursue higher education in Engineering and assist them to prepare for the entrance examination.

The project builds a broad platform for girl students of class XI and XII, where  assistance by means of online portal , virtual weekend contact classes at the Centre, round the clock helpline and study materials  will be provided, so as to enable them to study at their own pace , time and comfort.

Girl students enrolled in Class XI in  Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics with minimum  70%  marks  in  Class  X  overall  and  80%  marks  in  Science  and  Mathematics;  Boards  which  follow  CGPA,  a  minimum  CGPA  of  8  and  a  GPA  of  9  in  Science  and Mathematics, whose annual family income is less than Rs. 6 lakhs per annum. are eligible to apply.

The last date to apply online to get the benefit of UDAAN is August 7, 2017.  Girl students of class11 studying PCM as their core subject fromKendriyaVidyalays/ NavodayaVidyalayas/ Government run schools, affiliated to any Board in India can register themselves for UDAAN 2017 – 2019.

“ENAMELING” WORKSHOP INAUGURATED

Panaji: August 2, 2017 …. The Directorate of Art & Culture, has organized a four day “Enameling” workshop  at Chitrakala Studio, Sanskruti Bhavan, Patto, Panaji today                       Shri. Meghan Salgaonkar Resource Person  and  Shri. Ashok  Parab Assist, Director  Art & Culture  inaugurated the workshop by lighting the traditional lamp.

Shri Meghan Salgaonkar who was the resource person for the workshop said that the Every  field is blooming with new techniques. Enameling art also is one of these art forms. To prosper in this art form each and every artist have to learn the basic techniques of the field. Having basic knowledge of the art is important as it would give new ideas to the work.

The 4 day workshop will be conducted till August 4, 2017 at Sanskruti Bhavan, Patto, Panaji. Around 20 participants have participated in this workshop.

Shri. Yogesh Joshi anchored the function and also presented the vote of thanks.

FREEDOM FIGHTERS TO BE HONOURED BY THE PRESIDENT OF INDIA

Panaji: August 2, 2017 ….. Freedom fighters from Goa will be honored by the President of India during the ‘AT HOME’ function to be held on August 9, 2017 at Rashtripathi Bhavan, New Delhi.

Freedom fighters those are selected  by the State Government to receive the honour  in the function includes Shri Sakharam Sadu Naik, Shri Gopi Vithoba Shetkar, Tukaram Mahadev Shirodkar, Shri Sudam Morto Shirodkar, Shri Vasudev Rama Kalangutkar, Shri Narsinha Anant Prabhu,Shri Antulo Tulvo Shilkar, Shri Balwamtrao Vithalrao Desai, Shri Ramdas Raghunath Prabhu, Shri Gurudath Prabhu, Shri Gurudas K. Dhavalikar.

 The Freedom fighters will depart along with escorts from Goa on August 7, 2017 and return back on August 10, 2017.

TRIBUTES PAID TO LOKMANYA TILAK ON HIS DEATH ANNIVERSARY

Panaji, August 1, 2017 …. Rich tributes were paid to freedom fighter and noted journalist, Bal Gangadhar Tilak on his death anniversary at a function held at the Goa Legislative Assembly, Porvorim. On the occasion, the Chief Minister, Shri. Manohar Parrikar garlanded the portrait of the leader and paid homage.

The Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly, Dr. Pramod Sawant, said the main aim of remembering the leader on his death anniversary was to keep the thoughts of Lokmanya Tilak alive among us.

Dr. Sawant said, “As India progresses, we are forgetting our history. It is therefore important to remember such national icons and get inspired. Lokmanya Tilak was one of those inspirational national figures who spoke of freedom and ‘Swaraj’ (self-rule).

Dr. Sawant added further, “Lokmanya Tilak had studied law and he could have gone abroad and earned for himself. But, yet he decided to stay in India and work for India’s freedom through his writings. He started the Sarvajanik Ganesh celebrations in order to bring people together and discuss issues related to India’s freedom struggle and strengthen national integration.”  

Legislature Secretary, Shri. N.B. Subhedar in his address recalled how Lokmanya Tilak’s writings inspired the people to fight against the colonial rule.

Also present on the occasion was the Minister for Housing and Rural Development, Shri. Jayesh Salgaonkar, Leader of the Opposition, Shri. Chandrakant Kavalekar, and MLAs Shri. Rajesh Patnekar and Shri. Isidore Fernandes among others.

DISTRICT MAGISTRATE NORTH PROHIBITS CARRYING OF ARMS

Panaji: July 31,2017 …. The District Magistrate, North Goa has prohibited carrying of all types of arms, fire arms, ammunition, lethal weapons, in any public place, street, road squares, through fare, by lanes, or in any open place in entire North Goa District with immediate effect until further orders.

          The District Magistrate has also directed all the arms license holders in the North Goa District to deposit all their fire arms at the nearest police stations of their respective jurisdiction immediately. All the firearms deposited will be returned to their license holders after five days from counting i.e. after the election process is over.

          It is also made known that, if any person has a real threat to his or her person or property, he or she should approach the Director General of Police for providing necessary security by the police, but under no circumstances will any person be allowed to carry his own personal firearm or firearms license or otherwise except with special permission of District Magistrate North.

          The above restriction will not apply to Public Servants, Police, Defence Personnel and Security Personnel on duty and to those members of the community who are entitled to display weapons by long standing law, custom and usage, unless they are found to be indulging in violence or posing a threat to the maintenance of law and order and peaceful conduct of elections.

          Similarly, the Sports Persons who are the members of National Rifle Association of India at different levels who have to participate in various sports events in which they use their arms are exempted from depositing the fire arms.

GOVT TO EDUCATE MASSES ON SAFE DRIVING:  SARDESSAI

Margao:  July 29, 2017 …. Minister for Town & Country Planning, Shri Vijay Sardessai reiterating the government commitments to educate the masses on safe driving till positive results are visible in this direction said that there has been a steep rise in the number of accidents.

Shri Sardessai speaking after flagging off the new Advanced Life Support GVK EMRI ambulance being provided to cater to the needs of Margao town at his Fatorda residence today said the state-of-the-art ambulance having well trained para-medics will provide quick response as the case warrants thereby addressing the medical needs of the affected person as he is being shifted for further treatment.

Shri Sardessai said “emergency does not normally occur at too many places at the same time. If the present one is not sufficient to meet the demands of the town, necessary arrangement an additional ambulance will be made, he remarked.

TCP Minister was of the firm opinion that the locals should benefit and stressed the need to employ local people on the ambulances at the respective places.  The locals will be able to reach the destination of the emergency at a faster pace being well versed with the locality, he pointed.
