KEEP GOA CLEAN AND BEAUTIFUL FOREVER- SHRI MAUVIN GODINHO

Panaji, February 8, 2018 …  The Government has a vision of clean and well developed Goa which won’t be achieved without the participation and corporation of people. Goa has its name world over as tourist destination so we have to be serious about keeping Goa clean and beautiful forever stated by  Panchayat Minister Shri Mauvin Godinho while speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of the  day long State Level convention of Elected Representatives and Functionaries of PRIS at Taleigao today.

This state level convention was organized by the Directorate of Panchayats in collaboration with The Goa Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development ( GIPARD ).

Shri Godinho said that the local representatives have to cherish a broad vision and strive   put up proper proposals  in the interest the state and its  people  for which there  will be  no dearth of funds. This convention comprises of new, experienced and matured people need to have proper understanding in regards of the development of their respective Panchayats.

Shri Godinho further said that this convention will give insight, to the participants to work properly in future. redressing problem of shortage of full time Secretaries in many Panchayats is under consideration of the government he added.  

The Director of GIPARD Shri Sammuel Mathews who was guest of honour for the function while speaking advised the participants to take  the stock of  various requirements of their respective villages  and work out development plan and act accordingly.

Smt. Chitra Phadte, Vice –President South  Goa ZP,   Shri Vasudev Korgaonkar, Vice –President  North Goa ZP, Shri Janu Rozario, Sarpanch Village Panchayat Taleigao Ward Members and Sarpanchas of Various village Panchayats were among those who attended the function.

Smt. Sandhya Kamat, Director of Directorate of Panchayats welcomed the gathering.

NEW PREMISES FOR GOA LOKAYUKTA

CM INAUGURATES STATE ROAD SAFETY WEEK

Panaji, February 06, 2018…. The Chief Minister, Shri Manohar Parrikar recently, inaugurated the 8th State Road Safety Week organised by the Directorate of Transport. While speaking on the occasion, The Chief Minister told law enforcing personnel not to succumb to pressure tactics which traffic violators use when caught for breaking the traffic rules. “Fine them politely but fine them,” Shri Parrikar said.

            The Chief Minister spoke of how an accident victim is an economic loss to the state and loss to the family itself. Shri Parrikar said that the need of the hour was vigilant citizens. “If someone is violating traffic rules, tell them to stop or report them to the authorities,” the Chief Minister said.

            Minister for Road Transport, Shri Ramkrishna alias Sudin Dhavalikar said that the concept of road safety awareness should be carried out not just for a week but all year round. He told youngsters not to ride rashly and to always keep in mind that they have a family waiting for them to come home.

Managing Director of Department of Transport, Shri Nikhil Desai highlighted the various Government initiatives to reduce accidents in the State. He said that the Department was pursuing two proposals-one was an institution for vehicle testing and certification, which would enable only those vehicles that adhere to road safety standards on the roads and secondly, an institution for automated driving license, where only well-trained riders and drivers would get licenses.

            Assistant Director of Transport, Sandeep Dessai and Assistant Director of Transport Shri Nandkishore Arolkar were felicitated for their contribution to road safety. Shri Sandeep Dessai earlier gave a short talk sensitizing youngsters on road safety. Posters and banners on road safety were released on the occasion.

            Collector, North Goa, Smt Nila Mohanan, IAS, Director General of Police, Dr Muktesh Chander, IPS, Mayor of Corporation of City of Panaji and Shri Surendra Furtado among others who were present at the road safety week function.

NEED OF PROPER COMMUNICATION BY SCIENTIST WITH THE PEOPLE- NOBEL LAUREATE PROF. VOLHARD

Panaji: Feb.5,2018 …. An open interaction programme was organized under Nobel Prize Series Programme  in S.J.  Quasim hall of National Institute of Oceanography at Donapaula recently. The Nobel Laureates Prof. Christiane Nusslein–Volhard and Prof. Richard J. Robert  were the chief participants while  Mr. Gustav Kallstrand was the moderator for  this  interaction  programme.    

The Nobel Prize Series Programme which has commenced in the state   from 1 February, 2018 under which series of programme have been organized by the organizers as a part of this series this interactive session was organized so as to make the people to interact  directly  with these Noble Laureates.

Prof. Volhard while speaking said that scientist who makes the research should communicate with people about  their ideas derived from their research work this may benefit them in getting ideas in return. Therefore scientists have to create proper communication with the people. As a women scientist she shared her experience of hardship she has faced while doing her research work In spite  she stressed on the potential of talent which  women have can make  her  to become  a scientist .

Prof. Richard J. Robert while addressing in this open interaction programme focussed on the point of proper communication by scientist with the people. This he said will help to share their ideas and scientific knowledge with people. Lack of adequate communication between these two important factors of society have left away people from knowledge of science and creating scientific temper among the people  he added.

Panaji: February 4, 2018 …. The Nobel Laureates Prof.Christiane Nusslein-Volhard in a Nobel dialogue said that for teachers it is important to see the potential of the student and bring out their capabilities. The dialogues was moderated by Gustav Kallstrand

           While addressing the gathering Prof. Volhard said that nowadays it has become easier to get knowledge as there are many sources from where we can derive information. Prof. Volhard also advised to choose something in the long run that makes one happy.

           The Nobel Laureates Professor Serge Haroche while sharing his experience sad that he was lucky to study in the institution which gave him freedom to express, and also gave opportunity to bring out his potential .

            Answering a question about whether education and innovation are linked together Professor Serge Haroche said that Education is long term activity which gives result later in future whereas Innovation is a short term activity which includes all processes by which new ideas are generated and converted into useful products which is pushed faster to get financial outcome. Professor Serge Haroche also was of the opinion that it is important to have teacher who can open your imagination and the mind.

              The Nobel Laureates Professor Richard J Robert said that the power of communicating is very important. One of the thing that scientist can’t do is to communicate with people .if they are able to communicate, it will be easier for them to explain their experiment to the people.

             Answering a question about how teachers can contribute to a better world Professor Richard said that it is important for a teacher to realize that while teaching student you are also creating impact on parents.

CHIEF MINISTER INAUGURATES NOBEL PRIZE SERIES INDIA 2018

Panaji: February 3, 2018  … The 2nd edition of ‘Nobel Prize Series India 2018 with a theme Science Impact Lives’ and the ‘Nobel Science Exhibition and the India Science Exhibition: Ideas Changes the world’ was inaugurated by Chief Minister Shri. Manohar Parrikar at Darya Sangam, Kala Academy recently. The Nobel Prize Series India 2018 is organized by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, in collaboration with Nobel Media AB Sweden, the Nobel Museum and Government of Goa.

          Secretary of Department of Bio-Technology Padmashree Prof. K. Vijayaraghvan, CEO, Nobel Media Dr. Mathias Fyrenius along with Nobel Laureates Christiane Nusslein-Volhard, Serge Haroche, Richard J. Roberts, Tomas Lindahl and Director of the Nobel Museum Dr. Olov Amelin, Consul General of Sweden for Mumbai Ulrika Sundberg were present on the occasion.  

          In his address, the Chief Minister said that India has always given importance to knowledge. “We are grateful to the organizers for this opportunity. Goa has a scientific legacy with some of the eminent scientists such D.D. Kosambe, Raghunath Mashelkar etc. Our government seeks to reinforce Goa’s status as a scientific hub of India by promoting scientific temperament. We want to be a knowledge powerhouse that will influence nation’s growth and address the most critical development issues,” the Chief Minister said.

          He further announced that an annual ‘Innovation in Science Contest’ for senior school and college students will be held, where students will be invited to propose breakthrough ideas with due help from the Government. He also proposed to set up an annual Goa Nobel Lecture series. “We want to make Goa a home for next-generation Nobel Laureates,” he stated. He urged the teachers and the students to make the best of this opportunity and participate in the Nobel dialogues in next two days.

Prof Cristin Nusslein Volhard, one of the Nobel Laureate, in her address said that Science not only meant to improve mankind but to encourage basic research. “Basic research is not directly aimed towards discovery but to understand complications,” she said. Prof. Volhard also informed that she is currently working on fish and their patterns and colors. She urged the students to be curious, ask questions and discover things to help mankind.

Prof. K. Vijayraghavan and Dr. Mathais Fyrenius gave the welcome addresses. The Chief Minister later presented mementos to the Nobel Laureates. Smt. Siddhi Upadhey compered while Secretary of Department of Science and Technology Shri. Daulat Hawaldar IAS proposed the vote of thanks.

Director of Higher Education Shri. Prasad Lolayekar, Member Secretary of Pollution Control Board Shri. Levinson Martins, Director of Information and Publicity Shri. T.S. Sawant, Shri. Suhas Godse, senior Government officials, teachers and students of various schools and others attended the event.

The Nobel series is the beginning of a five days unique program to stimulate engagement in science, literature that will take place in Goa, Mumbai, and Delhi. Nobel Laureates will give lectures, and take part in roundtable discussions and meetings with experts and students. A conference for students will take place in Goa and a National session will be hosted by President of India at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

The exhibition will be open for public from February 2 – 25. It is a unique opportunity to learn about the life of Alfred Nobel, view actual objects belonging to Nobel Laureates and see how Nobel Prize‐awarded discoveries may affect the future.

On February 2 and 3, 2018 the Nobel Laureates will attend Nobel Dialogues- an interaction with students and teachers from schools, colleges and university at Kala Academy while on February 3, they will have dialogues with scientists from National Institute of Oceanography, Dona Paula.  

CM INAUGURATES DISTRIBUTION OF COCONUTS UNDER GOVT INITIATIVE TO CONTROL PRICE RISE

Panaji: February 03, 2018 …. The Chief Minister, Shri Manohar Parrikar today, distributed coconuts at the Goa State Horticultural Ltd. outlet in Altinho. While speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that this was an initiative aimed at making it convenient for the people to buy coconuts at affordable rates.

          The Chairperson of the Goa State Horticultural, Shri Pravin Zantye said that the scheme was being implemented on a no profit, no loss basis.

Former Panaji MLA, Shri Sidharth Kuncalienker told the gathering that the coconuts were being sourced directly from farm to the market from where the Government was buying from the farm and making them available to the people at affordable rates. “It is our endeavour to protect Goan staple food,” he said adding that was a “good initiative in the interest of all Goenkars.”

          Shri Jayesh Salgaonkar, Minister for Housing and Rural Development was also present on the occasion.

          Shri Madhav Kelkar, Managing Director, Goa Horticultural Corporation, said that the “This sale of coconuts was being done under the scheme of Government Intervention to Control Price Rise.”

          Under the scheme, 15 coconuts per family will be made available once in 15 days. Customers will have to produce gas consumer card to avail of the benefit. Customers are to approach Goa State Horticultural outlets in their jurisdiction only.

PRESENTATION OF KALA GURAV PURASKAR ON FEB. 5, 2018

 Panaji, February 2, 2018 …  The Kala Gaurav Puraskar will be presented on February 5, 2018 by the Directorate of Art and Culture Minister for Art and Culture Shri Govind Gaude will be the Chief Guest for the function which will be held 4.00 p.m in Kala Academy, Campal.

Every year 30 such artistes from the state are felicitated by the Government. The awards are conferred in the fields of Music / Dance, Drama / Tiatr, Folk Art, Creative Photography, Painting, Craft, Sculpture, Bhajan/ Kirtan, Literature, Film etc. The award comprises of a memento, certificate, Shawl, Shriphal and a financial assistance to the extent of Rs. 25,000/- per awardee.

The Kala Gaurav Awardee for 2017-18 are for Drama – Shri Appa Yeshwant Shetye Drama, Shri Narshiv Shivram Nagvekar, Shri Sudan Vaikunth Naik, Smt Lila Keshav Kadam, Shri Usman Mohammad Khan, Shri Rohidas Tukaram Naik and Shri Vijaykumar Pandurang Kamat.

ASSESSMENT CAMP FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

Panaji, February 2, 2018 …  Talukawise Assessment camp for persons with disabilities under Assistance to Disabled  Persons for Purchase/fitting of Aids/Appliances (ADIP) is scheduled by Directorate of Social Welfare in co-ordination with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India, Jabalpur (ALIMCO) from February 2, 2018 to February 7, 2018. The timings of all these Assessment Camps are from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

 On February 3, 2018 it will be held at Shree Gujarathi Samaj School for Deaf and Dumb near Maruti Temple, Davorlim Margao and Dhareshwary Devasthan Hall, Dharbhandora.

On February 5, 2018 it will be held at Lok Vishwas Prathisthan School, Dhavali Ponda  and at Sanguem Municipal Council.

 On February 6, 2018 it will be held at Quepem Municipal Council, Quepem and on February 7, 2018  it will held at the Mamlatdar office in Canacona.

The ADIP scheme aims to address Hearing impairment, Locomoter disability and Visual Impairment. It also proposes to provide Hearing Aid, Wheelchair, Artificial Limb, Daisy wheel and Smart cane to eligible elderly beneficiaries depending upon their physical impairment.

Any differently – abled Person having 40% Disability, should posses an Aadhar Card or have applied for the Aadhar Card  with income limit of  Rs. 1.80 lakhs p.a. can avail of this facility.
