Panaji: October 04,2016 ….. The Chief Minister Shri Laxmikant Parsekar has said that senior citizens are treasure of experience which they have acquired by working in various capacities in various fields throughout their life. These people he said have rendered yeomen services towards the development of the society.
Shri Parsekar stated this after inaugurating “International Senior Citizens Day” at a function organized in the city recently .The Directorate of Social Welfare organized the function to mark the celebration of International Senior Citizens Day and felicitated twelve senior citizens from all over the state for their outstanding contribution towards the building of the society.
Shri Parsekar further said that we cannot undermine the services rendered by our senior citizens in the interest of the society in various forms like social workers, teachers, and professionals during their life time. Therefore he said it is our bounden duty to acknowledge and take care of them. In order to treat senior citizens separately, the Government intend to create Ward in the Goa Medical College. He sought their guidance and the suggestions made by them he said would be taken care of.
Minister for Social Welfare Shri Mahadev Naik while speaking at the function said that the senior citizens are the guiding force of the society and Government endeavours to provide amenities to ease their living. Under DSSY scheme he said the Government has already extended financial assistance to senior citizens as a concern towards them.
MLA and Chairman of EDC, Shri Siddharth Kuncalienkar and Shri Roque Basil Maquo Dias, senior citizen also spoke on the occasion.
Shri Virender Kumar, Secretary Social Welfare, Senior Citizens and their family members, staff of the Social welfare Department were among those who attended the function.
Shri S.V Naik, Director of the Department of Social Welfare welcomed the gathering while Shri Sudesh Gawade, Asst. Director proposed the vote of thanks.
