Panaji:- August 6, 2018 …. Minister for Health, Shri Vishwajit Rane launched the Newborn Screening Programme organized by the Directorate of Health Services, Panaji and Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim at Goa Medical College, Bambolim today.
Shri Rane while addressing the gathering expressed his happiness over the restarting of Newborn Screening Programme. He said that saving life of a new born is a big responsibility as the state is concerned, and therefore quality health care is very important and Goa is the first State to initiate this programme forward, he added.
The Minister further said that there are a number of inborn errors of metabolism that babies can be born with, these can be completely cured if diagnosed immediately after the birth. This program he said will be extremely beneficial to the people of Goa and therefore urged the people to avail benefit of this programme for the well being of the new born child.
Dean of Goa Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Pradeep Naik, Director of Directorate of Health Services Dr. Sanjeev Dalvi, CEO of Neaogen Labs, Bangalore Shri Thomas Mookken were present on the ocassion.
The programme was followed by the demonstration of newborn screening Test.
