Goan Reporter News: RTI awareness programme held at GCASC Sanquelim

On the occasion of Right To Information Day, the Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Sanquelim, in collaboration with the Goa State Information Commission, organized a State Level Awareness Programme on the topic “RTI: A Tool for Progress.” The event was held at the Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Sanquelim, where guests and experts shed light on the significance and impact of the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

The State Chief Information Commissioner, Adv. Vishwas R. Satarkar, delivered a comprehensive addresson the RTI Act. He focused on the history and the birth of the RTI Act, emphasizing that every citizen has the fundamental right to seek information. Advocate Satarkar underlined the importance of making this Act accessible to all the members of society, making it clear that the RTI Act has positively influenced the lives of common people. He also shared real-life cases where RTI has been a powerful tool for progress.

Shri. Sanjay N. Dhavalikar, State Information Commissioner, highlighted that RTI empowers individuals not only to request for information but also to appeal for the inspection of documents. He stressed that the RTI Act is highly relevant to every individual and encouraged students to make good use of it. Shri. Dhavalikar also provided valuable insights into the procedures and processes of the Right to Information Act.

Dr Agnela Dias, PIO of Government College of Arts Science and Commerce, Sanquelim, Shri Anil Karambelkar , Associate Professor of Geology, Government College of Arts Science and Commerce, Sanquelim, faculties and students were present at the function.

The program was hosted by Smt. Apoorva Sahakari, while Sara Fernandes expressed gratitude to all the participants and others who have contributed for the success of the State Level Awareness Programme.

The program served as a platform for enlightening students about their rights and responsibilities under the RTI Act and the positive impact it can have on society. By increasing awareness and understanding of the RTI Act, the event aimed to empower individuals to make informed choices and promote transparency and accountability at all levels of governance.
