Admiring the social and economic growth in State, President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu commended they initiative ‘Swayampurna Goa’ by the State Government at par with Atmanirbhar Bharat. She was addressing Civic Reception hosted by the Government at Durbar hall, Raj Bhavan, Dona Paula today.
Smt. Murmu underscored the remarkable growth made by Goa in the different sphere of development while safeguarding the environmental interests of the State. She also lauded the efforts of Chief Minister and State machinery to ensure economic growth. Goa has a cosmopolitan culture wherein gender equality is always celebrated. Uniform Civil Code could be considered as the best practice in the cosmopolitan culture of the region, she remarked.
Smt. Murmu further said that, Goa is always known for its hospitality and cultural diversity. Various cultures blended together make this State more vibrant and harmonious.
Since Goa has international recognition it has become one of the prominent places for organising international events.
President in her speech mentioned about immense contribution to the State and the country by late Manohar Parrikar in the capacity as the Chief Minister and Defence Minister.
Goa enjoys the cultural prosperity along with ecological richness, wherein all communities follows their traditional trades while competing with modernity. There has to be proper balance between traditional living and modernisation in attaining social and economic development.
Governor, Shri. P.S. Sreedharan Pillai in his address stated that, evil of untouchability doesn’t prevail in the State as all the people promote equality and brotherhood. There are various religious customs in the State wherein people perform traditional rituals together without any caste discrimination. Governor Shri. Pillai presented a set of books authored by him to the President.
Chief Minister, Dr.Pramod Sawant said that, the people of Goa are extremely honoured as the President made her maiden visit to the State. President Smt.Murmu has been an inspiration for the people by overcoming all difficulties of her life. Goa is emerging as a strong and sustainable State in the country with safeguarding its nature and cultural values. The State has always remained on the forefront in upholding brotherhood and social harmony among the society.
The Chief Minister welcomed the President Smt. Murmu by presenting Kunbi Shawl, Saree and traditional lamp.
President Smt. Murmu presented forest rights Sanads to few among the tribal communities. Shri. Bhairu Kale, Shri. Rama Gaonkar, Shri. Anand Harvalkar, Shri. Ashok Khandeparkar, Shri. Sukdo Gaonkar and Shri. Tolu Padkar received the Sanads.
Union Minister of State for Tourism, Shri. Shripad Naik, Leader of Opposition Shri. Yuri Alemao was present on their occasion.
Cultural programmes were presented by the group of artists in honour of the President.
The Civic Reception was attended by Council of Ministers, MLAs, Member of Parliaments, Secretaries to Government, Senior Officers in State and Central Government, Prominent personalities, philanthropists, in the field of business, education, and social service.
