Mormugao MLA Shri Sankalp Amonkar on Thursday felicitated Goa Beach Football Players — Terrence Fernandes, Kashinath Rathod, Abel Gurjao and Satish Anik from his constituency, who won the silver medal at the 37th National Games.
Amonkar said that it is a record that 10,000 athletes are participating from 28 states and 8 union territories at the National Games, and a proud moment for Goa.
“It is a prestigious occasion for me that 4 athletes from our constituency have won the silver medal in beach football at the Games. This is a way of appreciating their efforts. Many such athletes have created a name for themselves in the Games. They are representing Goa at the national level.”
He also told the four players that the entire constituency is proud of their achievement.
“I want to assure them that at the government level, whatever benefits they deserve, I will support them. The government had said that there would be a special job quota for those who represent the state at the national level. I will pursue this matter.”
He also spoke of creating a beach football arena at Baina.
“Due to the National Games, the talents of our Goan sportspersons have come to the fore for all to see. We never expected that Goa would win more than 30 medals. The infrastructure has been created for our sportspersons. Due to the achievement of these four boys, we will now try to create a court for beach football at Baina beach through the tourism department.”
