Goan Reporter News: Minister Sudin Dhavlikar urges GEC to work on Solar Energy Project

Goa College of Engineering students should come up with a  project based on solar energy as it is the need of the hour and State government will definitely support them  said Minister for Power  and New and Renewable Energy  Shri Ramkrishna alias Sudhin Dhavalikar .He was speaking after launching Remote Controller for Sectionalizer on 11kv distribution feeder, designed & developed by Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering Goa College of Engineering in association with Goa Electricity Department at Mantralaya, Porvorim.

Shri Dhavalikar congratulated students of Goa Engineering College for designing Remote Controller for sectionalisers which will help to identify the faulty section as well as clear the fault in minimum time thereby improve power system networks. Speaking further he said Power interruption are mostly seen in remote areas which are covered by forest such as Sattari, Dharbandora, Sanguem Quepem. We have started working on underground cabling work and secondly we are focusing on development in the sector which require utmost care such as city areas and industrial areas wherein lot of revenue is generated for the State he added.

On this occasion, Goa College of Engineering students from Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department Mr Raunak Chari, Mr Fred Barboza, Ms lshwari Gaonkar, and Ms Ujwala Shanbhag were felicitated with the certificate of appreciation.

Chief Engineer, Electricity Department, Shri. Stephen Fernandes, Director, Directorate of Technical Education, Dr Vivek Kamat, and Principal of Goa college of Engineering also congratulated the students of GEC.

Under the guidance of Prof. Jayesh Priolkar, Goa College of Engineering students from Electrical & Electronics Engineering Department have designed, developed, and implemented a device that will allow remote control of Sectionalizer on 11 kV distribution feeders using secure mobile phone communication. This will benefit the maintenance, fault detection on power transmission lines. After installing this device, technicians will be able to remotely operate the Sectionalizer. This device is embedded with all the safety and security features. The operator will also receive confirmation messages after carrying out operations and real time status can be checked by all authorized personal. One of the devices was installed and tested successfully on 11 KV Opa feeder at Nandanvan, Bethoda as a part of product development work.
