Goan Reporter News: Minister Sudin Dhavlikar Underscores to Switch to Alternate Energy

72% thermal energy produced from coal leads to pollution. This source of coal which is extracted from earth is depleted day by day. It is not possible to use thermal energy for long in future, he said and underscored the need to switch over to other sources of energy stated Power Minister Shri Ramkrishna alias Sudin Dhavlikar while addressing at a function organized by the State Designated Agency Department of Electricity to celebrate National Energy Conservation Week 2024 Celebration at Kala Academy Campal, today. 

The celebration was organized to sensitize the masses about conservation of energy. Skit competition, Poster painting, Essay competition, Street play, drawing  competition were organized at high school and higher secondary level with the intention to enable  them to educate society about the importance of conservation of energy.

The Minister speaking further said that the celebration of energy conservation week is an occasion for us to ponder over whether we are serious about the purpose behind the celebration. He said it is often found that in spite of celebration of any week with pomp and fervor, it is found that people continue to behave carelessly which is wrong and exhorted the people to be serious, judicious towards consumption of natural resources. Time has come to think over renewable, green sources of energy hereafter. We have to save these sources for posterity. We have to strike a balance now and strive to embrace energy efficient habits, he remarked and appealed to the students to shoulder the responsibility to educate/sensitize people about the purpose of energy conservation. He appreciated the staff and also congratulated the winners of prizes of various competitions organized by the Electricity Department.

Chief Electrical Engineer Shri Stephen Fernandes emphasising that we cannot expect development at the cost of destruction of the environment said nature’s furry will cost human life. The sources of nature are for our need and not for greed. He appealed to the students to sensitize their surroundings about the importance and conservation of energy. Government alone won’t be able to accomplish the objective of conservation of energy, he said and sought cooperation of society which is indispensable. He urged people to be cautious about the consumption of energy sources keeping in mind the needs of future generations.

The award of excellence of energy conservation at Municipality and Panchayat  level were conferred to City of Corporation of Panaji, Curti Khandepar Village Panchayat. The prizes for the citizen quiz were bagged by Shri Vighnesh Shetye, Smt. Shweta P. Desai, Shri Amulya Kediu etc. The best energy conservation club awards were won by Government High School Balli Quepem, Keshav Smruti High School Dabolim Vasco and P.M Government High School Margao. The schools who participated in skit competition and won the prizes are Keshav Smruti High School, Adarsh VV High School Margao and Government High School Balli.  The winners of outreach activities for Energy Conservation are first Ganat English High School Nirankal Ponda, Second by Government High School Chimbel and Hanuman Vidyalaya velus, Sattari.
