Minister for River Navigation Shri. Subhash Phal Dessai today pressed into service two new Ferry boats at ferry point, Panaji which will be operational on Divar-Old Goa and Chorao-Ribandar routes.
Speaking on the occasion Minister Shri. Phal Dessai said that, newly added ferry boats namely Mhadai PNG 967 and Doodhsagar PNG 968 in the fleet of River Navigation will certainly facilitate speedy and smooth movement for commuters on islands and riverside thereby boosting waterways transport in the State.
Minister also informed that River Navigation Department intends to launch new Ro-Ro Ferry boats service in State in next seven months. The project will be executed initially on pilot basis under which two Ro-Ro ferry boats will be launched. These ferry boats will have ramps on two sides which will facilitate vehicles and commuters for boarding and deboarding at the same time.
Shri. Phal Dessai further said that, River Navigation Department is committed towards improving the waterways transport service in the State thereby replacing old ferry boats with new ones in phases.
At present RND has 18 waterways ferry routes and 35 ferry boats in its fleet to cater to the needs of commuters.
MLA, Kumbharjua Shri. Rajesh Faldessai expressed satisfaction over commissioning new ferry boat on Divar-Old Goa and Chorao-Ribandar route. The additional ferry service will help for speedy transportation of commuters.
MLA, Saligao Shri. Kedar Naik said that, new ferry boats will definitely bring improvement in ferry service. He thanked Minister for RND for launching two new ferry boats in the interest of common man.
MLA, Mayem Shri. Premendra Shet also attended the programme. Captain of Port and HOD of RND Shri. Vikas Gaunekar, Superintendent of RND Shri. Vikram Raje Bhosale and other officers were present on the occasion.
