The Central Government Approves Composite Regional Centre for Goa, Announces New Initiatives for Persons with Disabilities, Says Minister Subhash Phaldesai”

“Minister for Empowerment & Social Welfare, Shri Subhash Phaldesai, announced the approval of a state-of-the-art Composite Regional Centre for Goa, thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the concerned ministers for their support. The announcement came during a function organized by the Sanjay Centre for Special Education in celebration of International Day for Persons with Disabilities in Porvorim.

The Minister highlighted that this regional center, under one roof, will offer training, education, rehabilitation, and other services for persons with disabilities (PwDs) in Goa, providing opportunities for them to enhance their skills and live a dignified life. He also acknowledged the efforts of the Goa Disability Commission and other stakeholders for their innovative initiatives.

Phaldesai commended Miss Fredric Menezes, a differently-abled individual, for her generous donation of ₹50,000 for various NGOs supporting PwDs in Goa. He also praised the International Purple Festival for its revolutionary impact in promoting initiatives for differently-abled persons, which have earned recognition from the central government.

In his address, Shri Guruprasad Pawaskar, Commissioner of the Goa State Commission for PwDs, lauded the state government’s efforts in setting up a Divyashya Kendra at Goa Medical College to improve accessibility for PwDs. The first Pradhan Mantri Divyasha Kendra (PMDK) at the GMC will provide free assistive aids to PwDs, benefiting over 3,000 individuals.

Director of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Smt. Varsha Naik, welcomed the dignitaries and presented mementos. The Minister also released a book on the National Para Swimming Tournament during the event.

Miss Fredrica Menezes, a painter, author, and poet, donated ₹50,000 each to various NGOs working for PwDs and also contributed her paintings to the Disability Commission’s office.
