The 34th Convocation of Goa University held at Raj Bhavan, Dona Paula witnessed an inspiring celebration of academic excellence and innovation. Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, addressed the gathering, expressing her delight at the remarkable achievements of the university and its students.
The President of India in her address said and commended that fifty five percent of degree students at Goa University are girls, showcasing the significant progress towards gender parity in education. Further highlighting the advancement of female students, she shared the heartening news that sixty percent of the the students receiving gold medals were girls. This achievement reflects the empowerment and prowess of young women, as they stride forward with confidence and ability.
Commending Goa University’s dedication to modern education methodologies, President of India Smt. Murmu highlighted the institution’s implementation of interdisciplinary programs under the National Education Policy 2020. Coordination between Skill development, industry engagement, and employability is vital for enhancing the quality of education.
In her address, the President of India underscored the pivotal role played by technology and innovation in today’s world. She lauded Goa University for its proactive promotion of innovation, particularly in emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. President of India Smt. Murmu emphasized the significance of developing world class competence in these domains within higher education institutions.
Goa University, in collaboration with the Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Goa, is running a program titled ‘Digital Integrated System for Holistic Teaching and Virtual Orientations.’ This initiative showcases the university’s commitment to harnessing technology for effective teaching and learning methodologies. A distinctive feature of Goa University is the establishment of interdisciplinary schools on campus, fostering collaboration between diverse departments. This initiative, in line with the National Education Policy, garnered the President’s praise. She noted that this approach enhances the institution’s potential to become a center of excellence for education, research, and innovation.
Another feather in the university’s cap is its engagement with ‘Unnat Bharat Abhiyan,’ where Goa University has adopted five villages practicing sustainable cultivation of mussels and mushrooms. President of India Smt. Murmu commended the institution for instilling values of social inclusion and environmental balance among its students.
The convocation was also graced by the presence of Governor Shri. P.S Sreedharan Pillai along with Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant. Governor Shri P.S. Sreedharan Pillai applauded the National Education Policy 2020 and congratulated all the awardees Prof. Harilal B. Menon, Vice Chancellor of Goa University, delivered the welcome address.
A total of 9290 students received Graduation Degrees, 1859 received PostGraduate Degrees, 116 students received their Diplomas and 61 research scholars were honoured with Doctoral Degrees, marking the beginning of a new journey filled with limitless prospects and opportunities.
