Goa Postal Division, in collaboration with the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Panaji, celebrated World Bee Day with great enthusiasm at the Panaji Philatelic Bureau, yesterday, 20th May 2024. The event was graced by the presence of Shri G. S. Rane, Senior Postmaster, Panaji HO, and Shri Vijendra Singh, Deputy Director, KVIC Panaji.
On this special occasion, a unique cancellation and three commemorative picture postcards were officially released, marking the significance of World Bee Day. The release was performed by Shri G. S. Rane and Shri Vijendra Singh, along with notable attendees including Mr. Melwyn Dsouza, a Master Trainer in Beekeeping, and Dr. M. R. Ramesh Kumar, Retired Ex-Scientist from NIO and a passionate philatelist. The event was well-attended by philatelists, staff members from KVIC, and the Panaji Head Post Office.
Mr. Melwyn Dsouza conducted an engaging talk and demonstration on the art and science of beekeeping, highlighting its importance for biodiversity and agriculture. Dr. M. R. Ramesh Kumar shared insightful information about World Bee Day through the lens of philately, enriching the audience’s understanding of bees’ crucial role in our ecosystem.
The specially designed picture postcards, released in honor of World Bee Day, are available for purchase from 20th May 2024 onwards at the Panaji Philatelic Bureau.
