Promoting millets and the Eat Right Initiative Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration organized a Walkathon on the theme Millets for a Healthy life at Industrial Estate, Verna yesterday.
The Walkathon was flagged off by the Secretary, Health Shri. Arun Kumar Mishra IAS, along with FDA Director Smt.Jyoti Sardessai, President, Verna Industrial Association Shri. Pradeep Da costa, President, Goa Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Association Dr. Pravin Khullar, Director Agriculture Shri. Nevil Alphonso, Executive Director, Marksans Pharma Shri. Vardhaman Jain.
Smt. Jyoti Sardessai spoke on the importance of Millets in the diet of every individual. Millets are enriched with multi nutrients values thus it has super food qualities. She appealed participants in the rally to consume millets in their daily diet and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
Upon declaration of the international year of Millets by the United Nation nationwide awareness programmes and activities are being organized by the Government of India through its various line Department to promote Millets. Millets are regarded as a `Super food` owing to its inherent nature of cultivability in tough environmental conditions, immense nutritive values and easy availability.
Taking ahead `Eat Right Initiatives` the Food and Drugs Administration is keen in implementing various activities to promote Millets in the modern lifestyle.
Agriculture Department is the nodal Department to promote Millets in the State and extending its support to other Departments and Agencies indulged in promoting millets and Eat Right Initiative.
The Walkathon was attended by employees of various Government Department and other representatives from Pharma Manufacturing Association and Industrial Association.
