Goan Reporter News: District Magistrate South Orders Ban on Unlawful Assembly during Bye Election

In view of Bye Elections, the District Magistrate (DM) and District Election Officer, South Goa, has ordered  that from 06:00 p.m. of June 21, 2024 to 06:00 p.m. of June 23, 2024 in 12 -Benaulim Zilla Panchayat Constituency in Salcete taluka and in Ward No. VII of V P. Cundaim, Ward No. II of V.P. Volvoi, Ward No. III of V.P. Querim, Ward No. XI of V.P. Borim of Ponda Taluka, Ward No. V of V.P. Rachol, Ward No. II of V.P. Seraulim, Ward No.I of V.P. Assolna of Salcate Taluka and Ward No. II of V.P. Xeldem of Quepem Taluka areas under the jurisdiction of South Goa District Election Office, South Goa District, there shall be ban on unlawful assembly as per section 141 of IPC and any procession or rally shall be prohibited to prevent any nuisance and law and order problem, No loud speaker shall be permitted to be used for the purpose of elections during the period of 48 hours ending with the poll closing time.

Similarly, vehicles permitted to all Contesting Candidates by the Returning Officers for campaigning shall not ply on roads to avoid any distribution of money or gifts or liquor and to prevent any nuisance and law and order problems except vehicles authorized by the Returning Officers on the day of Poll, All private vehicles shall be checked in dignified manner as per rules to avoid their misuse for distribution of money or gifts or liquor and for causing any nuisance also to avoid any harassment to private persons.

Similarly, No liquor shops, hotels, restaurants, clubs and other establishments selling / serving liquor, should be permitted to sell / serve liquor to anyone whosoever, on the aforesaid days; and on timings mentioned therein and Non proprietary clubs, star hotels, restaurants, etc. and hotels run by anyone even if they are issued different categories of licenses for possession and supply of liquor shall also not be permitted to serve liquor on these days, and on timings mentioned therein.

It is further ordered that, the above order shall not apply to Officers authorized on Election Duty by the District Election Officer, South Goa District or the State Government including the Polling Officials, Magistrates and Police Officials.
