Director General of Police, Shri Alok Kumar IPS, praised Home Guards as the unsung heroes and guardians of peace, acknowledging their diligent efforts behind the scenes to ensure societal stability, especially during crises. He emphasized that the Home Guard is not just a title but a symbol of commitment, bravery, and selflessness, playing an essential role in assisting the police during emergencies and providing support during natural calamities.

The DGP made these remarks during the 62nd Raising Day celebration of Home Guards and Civil Defence volunteers, held at the Police Headquarters in Panaji.

Expressing his happiness and privilege, DGP Alok Kumar stated that it was an honor to be with the Home Guards on this significant occasion. He commemorated their tireless dedication, unwavering service, and remarkable contributions to the safety and security of society.

The DGP further highlighted that the Goa Home Guards were founded to support law enforcement efforts, evolving into a highly effective and trained unit over time. Their commitment and courage have been exceptional as they have consistently worked to maintain public order, respond to disasters, assist in civil defense activities, and contribute to community building initiatives.

Shri Alok Kumar also stressed that the Raising Day is an opportunity to acknowledge the tireless spirit and sacrifices of the Home Guards. He expressed heartfelt gratitude for their contributions, whether it was ensuring law and order during public events, providing assistance during festivals, maintaining order during public unrest, or aiding in rescue operations during floods, earthquakes, and other natural disasters. Their role is indispensable and deserving of recognition, he reiterated.

Dy. Controller of Civil Defence, Smt. Sharmila Zuzarte, provided an overview of the Home Guards and Civil Defence, highlighting the volunteers’ important roles, including the deployment of around 300 civil defence volunteers for election duty in Maharashtra.

The event also included a guard of honor and salute by the Civil Defence troops, presented to DGP Shri Alok Kumar.

Other dignitaries present at the occasion included DIGP Goa Police, Shri Ajay Sharma, Superintendent of Police, SPCR/Pink Force, Smt. Ezilda F. D’Souza, Superintendent of Police, DySPs, Civil Defence Volunteers, and the Chief Warden and Warden of Civil Defence.
