12/07/2015 …. In order to find an amicable solution between the taxi owners and rent a cab, members of the rent a cab association on Saturday met calangute mla Michael lobo at his residence and sought his support for in finding an amicable solution from the state government side …

It may be noted that the taxi owners association of goa had recently to protested against the state government’s decision to lift a moratorium on rent-a-car permits which they believed was a plan of the state government to allow back door entry to car service operators from outside the state as entry of more tourist taxis means less or no business for the existing taxi operators who feel the market is already crowded with too many operators.

While the North Goa Rent-a-Car Association had recently called for a revision of the government’s decision to ban renting cars in the State and had asked that no new permits be granted but to legalize the ones that have currently applied with the Transport department..

Speaking over the phone calangute mla Michael lobo said that the rent a cab owners had met him asking to find an amicable solution with the tourist taxi owners for which I had asked time to discuss the issue from the chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar and other party functionaries on Monday …

Mr lobo said though rent a cab wanted tourist taxi owners to be included in their scheme he was not sure whether there was any provision to do so and therefore there was a need for legal opinion to take from advocate general on the concerned issue

Mr lobo also stated that the issue had to be deliberated properly as it was connected with the livelihood of the goans specially the goan taxi owners …
