In a bid to strengthen the border relations among Goa and Karnataka, Governor of Goa Shri. P. S. Sreedharan Pillai and Governor of Karnataka Shri. Thawar Chand Gehlot today held a joint meeting with District Collectors of bordering districts of both the States at South Goa Collectorate, Margao.
During the meeting Governor of Goa Shri. Pillai stressed on maintaining border relations and strengthening unity among the people of both the States. He said that people are supreme in democratic system and discussions among the interstate Administrative Officers assumes much significance to adress issues and find out solutions in interest of common people.
Mentioning about Mhadai river issue, Shri. Pillai expressed that legal system is in place which would resolve the issue.
Governor of Karnataka Shri. Thawar Chand Gehlot highlighting the problem of Drugs trafficking in both the State, advised to hold serious deliberations between the two States in order to prevent drugs trafficking. Consumption of drugs he said has ruined lives of several people.
He further suggested to strengthen the tie up between the states for enhancing tourism business and economical growth. Shri. Gehlot also expressed the need to have proper infrastructure for solid waste management and recycling mechanism to tackle the problem and called on both the States to resolve issues pertaining to solid waste.
It was informed that joint meeting of District Collectors was held as advised by Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi during the Governor’s Conference held in Delhi in order to resolve the issues between border districts.
Collector, South Goa Smt. Jyoti Kumari, IAS lamented on economic ties that prevails among Karwar and South Goa. She also informed about social, linguistic and cultural relationship prevailing among two states.
North Goa, Collector Smt. Mamu Hage spoke on ties shared by Goa- Karnataka in tourism, culture, medical facilities, economic, education and human resources.
Deputy Commissioner, Belgavi Shri. Nitesh Patil, IAS, Superintendent of Police Dr. Sanjiv Patil, Deputy Commissioner, Karwar Shri. Mullai Muhilan M. P., Superintendent of Police Dr. Suman Pennekar, North Goa Superintendent of Police, Shri. Shekhar Prabhudesai, South Goa Superintendent of Police Shri. Abhishek Dhania made presentation on various aspects of respective districts.
Secretary to Governor Shri. Mihir Vardhan and other officers were present on the occasion.
