Panaji: June 6,2018 … Minister for Revenue Shri Rohan Khaunte has called for the need of mass awareness among the people on the importance of environment essential for the existence of human being on the earth and exhorted the village development committees to keep this issue on fore front of their agenda.
This was stated by the Minister Shri Khaunte while speaking as the chief guest at a tree saplings distribution function organized by Penha De Franca Bio-Diversity Management Committee to mark the celebration of ‘World Environment Day’at Porvorim yesterday.
Shri Khaunte said that the existence of every species in the environment is important as they have a important role in environmental balance. The over interference of man with nature is causing threat to the environment. The garbage problem especially of plastic around us is increasing day by day. Therefore, he appealed to the people to reduce and reuse the plastic.
Shri Khaunte further said that the Government has constructed overhead water tank to make water supply for Porvorim area round the clock by 24×7 hours. The problem of power in this area would also be resolved by laying underground cabel which may start in the month of November of this year, he added. He appreciated the members of the BMC for their endeavor for organizing the function to sensitize the masses about the importance of the environment and congratulated the recipients of prize winners of the competition organized by BMC on the topic ‘’ Bio-Diversity in Porvorim,
The Sarpamch and Chairman of BMC Shri Swapnil Chodankar in his address said that the role of every citizen is important in preserving environment. Protection of trees and plantation will help to enhance the bio-diversity of Porvorim. He called for the cooperation of people to keep Porvorim clean and support BMC during plantation drive.
Dr. Narayan Hede said that the clean air is must for healthy living and will be possible only if we keep our surrounding garbage free. Burning of plastic causes air pollution and therefore we should reduce the use of plastic, he added.
Shri Gupesh Naik, Zilla Panchayat Member also spoke on the occasion.
The first prize of the completion was won by Mast. Swapnil Lotlikar, Second by Mast. Viddesh Gosavi, third by Miss Nikita Lotlikat, Miss Tanuja Naik and Miss Priyasha Phatarpkar both won consolation prizes.
