17/07/2014 …. Chief minister Manohar Parrikar on Thursday inaugurated a two day summit on sustainable mining organized by federation of Indian mineral industries at a five star resort at dona paula.
The two day summit spoke on allocation of mineral concessions vis-à-vis sustainable mining and scientific exploration and mining, mine closures, Social, environmental and forest appraisals mining and biodiversity, Occupational health and safety in mining, Improve technologies, equipment and practices for sustainable mining and Sharing of benefits with local communities, conflict resolution
Along with chief minister present on the occasion were president of fimi h c daga, former managing director of tata steel h m nerurkar, chairman cum managing director nmdc ltd Hyderabad narendra Kothari and other dignitaries
Speaking on the occasion chief minister Manohar Parrikar said that mining was a base pillar of the economy and one could not bring it down even if he had wished to do it while it was bad to waste certain resources and there was a need to conserve certain energies
Meanwhile president of fimi h c daga said that during its five year term of the organization of federation of Indian mineral industries was that recognized as the responsible organization working towards sustainable mining and its contribution was also appreciated by the supreme court towards its contribution to for r n r plant for mines in Karnataka which was closed following the supreme court order …
