Panaji: August 24, 2019…Governor of Goa Smt. Mridula Sinha recently inaugurated a 5-Day workshop for school Headmasters and Maths, Science teachers at National Institute of Technology (NIT), Farmagudi. The workshop is organized in joint collaboration with Rashtriy Avishkar Abhiyan (RAA) and UNISED (Unit of Science and Educational Development) – IIT Kanpur. The Governor also inaugurated an Integrated Class Training (ICT) lab and an innovative Science and Maths kit. The kit will be distributed to schools post the workshop.
National Programme Advisor of RAA, Shri. Avaneesh Tripathi, Programme Director, UNISED, (Unit of Science and Educational Development) – IIT Kanpur, Shri. Javed Ali Khan, Secretary Education, Prof. Gopal Mugarayya, Director, NIT Goa, Smt. Nila Mohanan IAS, National Convener, UNISED Dr. Sandip Shai were present on the occasion. The workshop is being attended by 60 teachers and Principals from the state of Goa.
Speaking on the occasion the Governor congratulated team NIT for their initiative. “Teachers she said play an important role in shaping a child’s future. Our country has a beautiful Guru-Shishya Parampara and workshops like these will allow us to revitalize the same.”
The Governor said that Mathematics and Science need to be taught in practical manner. “Nature is our best teacher. Hence, sometimes taking a class outdoors help. Students must be able to relate to nature and its concepts. It’s only then, the fear of these subjects will go off their minds. We must work hard to impart quality education,” the Governor opined.
Earlier, Prof Gopal Mugarayya welcomed the gathering. Other dignitaries also spoke on the occasion. PRO NIT Goa, Smt. Sarani Ghoshal, compered the function while Director of Education, Shri. Nagraj Honnekeri proposed the vote of thanks.
The faculty members NIT and Goa Engineering College as well as others will train the teachers to teach topics like Geometry, Properties of circles and triangles, Software’s for Mathematics, Algebra, Quadratic equations/expressions, Parabola and Problems, Properties of Acid, Base and Salt, Families of Carbon Compounds, Weight, Mass, Light, Energy and Gravity.
