PLANNING USE OF LAND IS A SCIENTIFIC APPROACH TOWARDS AGRICULTUTRE-AGRICULTURE MINISTER

Panaji: October 31, 2018 … Minister for Agriculture Shri Vijay Sardesai said that the report of the fallow land of Goa will help to know micro climate of that particular area and bring maximum land under cultivation to make the concept of Agri hub and Horti hub a reality  in the state.

Shri Sardesai was speaking as the chief guest for the function of Report release of Agriculture land use planning of Goa state. The function was organized by ICAR, National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning Nagpur, ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute Goa for Directorate of Agriculture Govt. of Goa.at Tonca  Karanzalem  today.

Shri Sardesai further speaking said that Planning of land use is an scientific approach towards farming. The adoption of this approach by the Directorate of Agriculture has good intention to boost agriculture. The Government from time to time initiated steps to bring agricultural reforms,  So now  the time has came to ponder over whether the purpose behind the same have  served or not ?

Shri Sardesai also said that, the Government has implemented various schemes to encourage community farming in the state. He advised the officials of the Agriculture Department to reach the report to grass root farmers and encourage them to bring maximum fallow land under cultivation so as to mark the target of 10,000hectors of land out of 13000 hectors of fallow land shown in the report.

The Director NBSS & LUP Nagpur while addressing at the function said that Goa has vast Khajan land, the soil resource database on 1:10,000 is very useful not only for the farmers but also for the planners, executors and                 administrators as well.  He said it has its relevance not only in terms of agriculture but also in regards of other lien activities like irrigation, soil conservation, water harvesting, forestry, horticulture, floriculture and landscape developers etc.

Dr. Singh further speaking said that Goa is the only state in the country to issue soil health cards to the farmers. The land use survey will help to introduce scientific cultivation, farming etc. in the state.  It will also help to identify micro climate of that area to know which land is suitable for which crop etc.

The Director of ICAR Dr. Eknath Chakurkar in his opening remarks said that characterization and mapping of land resources in Goa in reference to cultivated and fallow land use system is a step towards enhancing agricultural productivity. Owing to the importance of the   survey of fallow land which  is begin from Goa will be taken ahead to other states of the country in future he informed.
