VLC’S NEED TO BE SET IN MOTION: THOMAS

October 05, 2018 … The District Magistrate and Collector, South Goa District, Dr. Tariq Thomas underscored the need to set in motion the Village Level Committees,  Water and Sanitation; Garbage Managment Committee and Health Department Committee to ensure that the people participate in  addressing the issue various issues plaquing the villages including adverse effect on Vector Borne Diseases.

Chairing the meeting of the District Co-ordination Committee on Vector Borne Disease at MSAC, Collectorate today, Dr. Thomas exhorted the concerned BDO’s to ensure that atleast one meeting of each committee is held by December 19, 2018 at all village panchayats.

Dr. Thomas also suggested to have an orientation programmes for the Doctors for updation of statutory provisions which would go a long way to refresh/update their knowledge on various aspects which could be effectively be useful in their day to day discharging of duties.

Commending the efforts of the Doctors for tirelessly working to control the Vector Borne diseases, the Collector felt the need for the committee to be active throughout the year and should not be just monsoon specific one. Though Vector Borne Diseases is a serious issue during monssons, systematic efforts are required to tackle it, he remarked.

The Primary Health Centre across the District through a Power Point Presentation presented the various issues, IEC activities undertaken involving the people and school students at different centres including the measures undertaken to address the breeding and spreading of the disease.  Periodic figures of last siox months on various issues at different PHC’s were placed before the committee members for their knowledge and information.

The Medical Officers from various PHC’s; Mammaltdars, BDO’s; Sanitiary Inspectors from PHC and Municipalities and Shri Roland Martins, Goacan attended the meeting.
