Panaji: December 27, 2017 … Governor Dr. Smt. Mridula Sinha visited the Dhangar community in Sanguem and interacted with the members especially with the women and children. The Governor also listened to their demands and grievances. The Governor assured the community that she will take up the matter with the concerned authority in the Central and State Government.
The Governor later visited the households and took an account of their lifestyle, health and education. She also interacted with the kids and gave them the message of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
The Governor later attended a function of Unnati Samaj at Koynamol, Dudhal Kalay, Sanguem and felicitated the meritorious students in the presence of Minister for Tribal Affairs Shri Govind Gaude, Leader of Opposition Shri. Babu Kavlekar, MLA Shri Prasad Gaonkar, Rajya Sabha MP Shri. Vinay Tendulkar and MLA-Savordem Shri. Deepak Pawaskar.
While addressing the gathering, the Governor stated that Goa is not merely about eat, drink and merry rather it is a treasure trove of rich culture. She appreciated the tribals for preserving their culture in a very subtle way. “The culture of Goa is not different from culture of rest of India. Goa is as much as culturally rich as other parts of the country. The Dhangar community have cultivated and nurtured the land of Goa and their contribution in economy of Goa is of immense significance,” she said.
During the programme, Governor inquired from the Tribal community, their willingness to take up Charkha spinning, Pottery and Bee keeping. Live demonstration of new model Charkha, Pottery making and Bee keeping boxes was done by the KVIC and KVIB, Goa in front of the community. The community was also made aware of the various schemes of Central and State Government. The Governor said that many such visits to rural areas in Goa will be followed.
