OCTOBER 2, 2017 … Senior citizens are an important segment of society. It is our duty to look after their well-being said Minister for Social Welfare, Shri Pandurang Madkaikar at a function to commemorate Senior Citizens’ Day, organized by the Directorate of Social Welfare in the city, yesterday.
He further sought the guidance of the senior citizen in the functioning of the Government and the society. The Minister informed that the Government would set-up Ummid Centres in gram panchayats in the state. He also said that the government has implemented various schemes for the welfare of senior citizens and assured NGOs, intending to starts rehabilitation and care centre for the elders, with the required resources and infrastructure.
The senior citizens who have contributed to the socio- economic development of the state were felicitated on the occasion.
Ex-MLA and Chairperson of EDC (Economic Development Corporation), Shri Sidharth Kuncalienker while addressing the gathering said that we are indebted to our senior citizens and called them a guiding force.
Shri Santan Fernandes, Director of Social Welfare (South) welcomed the gathering. Shri Sudesh Gaude, Assistant Director was among those who were present on the occasion.
