In a nail-biting football encounter held today, Curtorim Gymkhana defeated Raia Sporting Club 6-4 via the tiebreaker to move into the quarterfinals of the 1st Fernando Abranches Memorial Trophy 2025, organized by United Club of Verna at Verna Panchayat Ground on Tuesday.
The first half saw Curtorim Gymkhana’s Anslem Fernandes draw first blood, scoring a brilliant goal to put his team in the lead. Despite Raia Sporting Club creating multiple scoring opportunities, they failed to convert them, leaving the fans on edge.
In the dying minutes of the match, Raia’s Garrison Fernandes emerged as the hero, finding the back of the net to secure an equalizer, pushing the game into a tiebreaker.
During the tiebreaker, Silviano Oliviero, Patric D’Souza, and Harrison Fernandes netted goals for Raia Sporting Club. However, Curtorim Gymkhana edged out their opponents with successful strikes by Aliston Fernandes, Amar Estiberio, Fredy Helario, Frazer Fernandes, and Rhay Dias.
Velroy Borges of Raia Sporting Club was awarded the Star of the Match by Ex-Sarpanch of Verna, Mr. Constancio Fernandes.
