In the inaugural match of the 1st Simon Barreto Memorial Inter-Village Football Tournament, Fr. Agnelo YSC Paroda blanked Benfica Youth Club 5-0 to enter the quarterfinals. The tournament is organized by Maina Sports Club at DYSA Ground, Curtorim, on Tuesday.
The match started at a slow pace, with both teams trying to take control, but Fr. Agnelo had the upper hand and struck the first goal in the 2nd minute of play by Ashwan Fernandes. Benfica YC’s Dominic missed an equalizer chance, and then Paroda scored their second goal through Alfiano Fernandes in the 27th minute, leading 2-0 at the halftime break.
In the second half, Fr. Agnelo YSC Paroda scored three more goals. Alfiano Fernandes completed his hat-trick with goals in the 37th and 44th minutes, and Savio Vales rounded off the tally in the 47th minute. In injury time, Benfica’s Sushant Borkar’s solo effort was saved by the Paroda goalkeeper.
Earlier, the tournament was declared open by Chief Guest Alfred Barreto, ex-president of Maina Sports Club, who later presented the Man of the Match award to Sushant Borkar of Benfica Youth Club.
