LAUNCHING OF DIABETIC RETINOPATHY SCREENING AND TREATMENT PROGRAM IN GOA

 Panaji: May 26, 2016 … The launch of Diabetic Retinopathy program in Goa by Goa Medical College with support from Public Health Foundation of India, London School of Hygine and Tropical Medicine and HV Desai Eye Hospital.

The Diabetic Program is supported by the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubile Trust.

PHFI has signed a MOU with MOHFW Government of Goa for strengthening the Public Health system for prevention of blindness from Diabetic Retinopathy.

In collaboration with HV Desai Eye Hospital Goa Medical College will support the Directorate of Health Services to implement the program to prevent blindness from Diabetic Retinopathy. (screening, early detection and treatment) .

The primary objective of the Trust funded program is to strengthen and integrate services for prevention, screening and management of diabetic retinopathy into the public health system. In India, the trust has approved a project proposal by PHFI and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (UK) (for the period 2015 -2018) to strengthen and integrate services for prevention, screening and management of diabetic retinopathy into the public health system.

Goa is selected as one of the states in India with both districts North and South for this programme. Launching ceremony is being held in Library Auditorium  of Goa Medical College on May 26, 2016 between 11 to 2.00 pm.
