It may be noted that the tenure of the present 30-member Corporation of the City of Panaji comes to an end on March 22, 2016 due to which the state election commission has decided to hold elections for the post of councillors on March 13 according to state election commissioner
CCP is currently headed by mayor Shubham Chodankar who belongs to the BJP-backed panel. CCP councillors are evenly balanced between the BJP-backed panel and St Cruz MLA Antanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate-backed panel.
Speaking to goanreporter.com st cruz mla babush monsoratte said that mr parekh had done a good job in the first year term of last five years as a ccp mayor while making surendra furtado as the ccp mayor with the support of his panel was just a marriage of convenience
Mr monsoratte said that then ccp has been left behind in terms of development due to the false promises given by the then chief minister manohar parrikar who had assured on the floor of the house of giving 50 crores to the corporation but till ccp had not received the same
Mr monsoratte also stated that issues like vision panjim, smart cities should not be an election gimmick but there was a need for the ccp mayor along with the councilors, architects, engineers to give their suggestions as far as panjim smart city was concerned
