In alignment with the Government of India and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change initiative to promote a green and clean environment, Goa Naval Area (GNA) has embarked on a mass tree plantation drive.

In February 2024, NUWR (Goa) under the aegis of HQGNA and Bajaj Electrical Foundation under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program joined hands to collaborate on this significant environmental initiative. Following an onsite visit in March 2024, various locations within the Goa Naval Area at Vasco were identified and finalised for the plantation.

Over the past few years, the Indian Navy has planted more than 19,000 saplings within Goa. To mark the celebration of World Environment day held on June 05, an additional 1,800 saplings were planted across the Goa Naval Area. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance the green cover, contributing to improved air quality and biodiversity. Various clean-up drives, awareness programs, procurement of e-vehicles, implementation of ‘No Vehicle’ days, and other green initiatives are planned for this year.

The Indian Navy remains steadfast in its commitment to environmental sustainability, actively addressing climate change, enhancing biodiversity, and promoting ecological balance. This mass tree plantation project reflects Goa Naval Area’s dedication in fostering a sustainable future for the community and the planet. The active participation of the naval community in this drive is aimed at nurturing a sense of ownership and responsibility towards the environment.
