Governor Shri. P. S. Sreedharan Pillai said that Goa’s unique and traditional technique of painting known as ‘Kaavi Art’ is all set to get a fresh lease of life. He also informed about the initiatives of the Prime Minister of India, the Governor mentioned about the importance given to this form of art in his Mann Ki Baat episode in the year 2021.
Governor, Shri. P.S. Sreedharan Pillai was on a visit to Adwalpale and Bicholim to support and encourage Kavi Art of Goa today.
Spouse of the Governor Smt. Rita Sreedharan Pillai, Shri M. R. M. Rao, IAS, Secretary to the Governor and Shri Mihir Vardhan, former Secretary were present during the visit.
Interacting with the media, the Governor said, Goa’s unique and traditional technique of painting known as ‘Kaavi Art’ is seen in most of the temples, churches in Goa, which he said is very important and needs to be appreciated.
The Governor informed that a four day workshop has been conducted by Raj Bhavan in Annexe of new Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan from February 14 to 17, 2024 to promote kaavi art and encourage budding artists from Goa.
The workshop is an endeavour effort by Raj Bhavan to contribute to the efforts being made by heritage lovers to protect and promote this dying unique ‘Kaavi Art’ and to create awareness about this art to the rest of the country and the world. This rich, beautiful and diverse cultural fabric of Goa’s heritage can also be a tourist attraction and needs to be promoted vigorously by all the stakeholders, the Governor appealed.
Appreciating the beauty of villages, the Governor mentioned that his new book Heavenly Islands of Goa, which will be completed very soon will highlight the same. Goan tradition must be propagated and depicted across India, he added.
On his arrival at Shree Sharvani Temple Dr. Chandrakant Shetye, MLA welcomed the Governor. Others present were Shri Gajanan Palkar, Sarpanch, Shri Pradip Revodkar, ZP, Member, Shri Shivanand Shenoi Salgaonkar, members of Devasthan and others. The Governor was felicitated on behalf of the committee.
After offering prayers at Shree Sharvani Temple the Governor visited and witnessed the kaavi art at Shree Hanuman Temple in Adwalpale village. Later he visited the local panchayat office. The Sarpanch, Deputy Sarpanch and other members gave him a warm welcome.
The Governor also visited the heritage house of Shri. Anand Dessai at Lamgao, Bicholim and evinced keen interest in the beautiful traditional Kavi Art at his residence.
