Goan Reporter News: Public interaction on Naquim and ground water conservation

Central Ground Water Board, an apex organization for ground water under Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India organized one day Public Interaction Programme on “NAQUIM & Ground Water Conservation” at Dempo Charities Trust’s – Dhempe College of Arts and Science, Miramar, North Goa district on February 08, 2024 in which around 91 students from the geology department of the college participated with overwhelming response.

During inauguration ceremony, Smt. Veena R. Achutha, Scientist-D, CGWB, South Western Region, Bengaluru delivered the Welcome address and warm welcomed the Chief Guest Dr. Swati Pawar, Vice Principal, Dhempe College of Arts and Science, Miramar, Goa & the Guests of Honor Dr. Raghav Gadgil, Incharge, Head of the Department, Geology Department, Dhempe College of Arts and Science, Miramar, Goa and all the professors, participants and students. Scientist-D Smt. Sangita.P. Bhattacharjee and Officer in Charge, CGWB, SUO Belagavi.

In her keynote address, she briefed about the aims and objectives of the interaction program. She threw light upon the Mission Life and its importance in sustainability of resources and protection of environment. She recited the pledge of Mission Life and everyone present in the Programme took the pledge wholeheartedly.

The Public Interaction programme was inaugurated by Vice Principal, Dr. Swati Pawar, Dhempe College of Arts and Science. She in her inaugural address spoke about the importance of awareness programmes related to water conservation & environment in the initial academic stages so that students today become better citizens tomorrow creating awareness on water conservation and management aspects.

Head of the Department, Dr. Raghav Gadgil, Incharge, lauded the efforts of Officers from the Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Jal Shakti, and Government of India who conducted the one-day Public Interaction Programme. Lectures and presentations were given by the eminent scientists covering various topics like Basics of Hydrogeology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, NAQUIM activities and career opportunities on Earth Science.

During the vote of thanks, Smt. Lalitha B. H., STA (Chemical), CGWB, SWR, Bengaluru expressed gratitude for the cooperation extended by Chief Guest, Vice Principal Dr. Swati Pawar, and Guest of Honor, Dr. Raghav Gadgil for all the logistics support. She further extended gratitude to all the officers & officials of CGWB and all the faculty who helped directly & indirectly in the program.

The interaction programme ended with positive response from participants and leaflets on how to save water and pamphlets on groundwater scenario were distribution to all the participants.

Participation kits comprising of caps & water bottles were distributed to them.
