Panaji, april 2, 2015 …. Highlighting the importance of sensitizing students on issues concerning sanitation and cleanliness in the State Chief Minister Shri Laxmikant Parsekar has called for involvement of Health Institutions, NGOs, Rural and Urban Local Self Government Bodies, Self Help Groups, Youth Organizations and Residents in cleanliness and awareness drives.
Addressing the State level programme on National Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Awareness at the Secretariat, Porvorim recently the Chief Minister said efforts are needed to sensitize everyone on the issue of Sanitation and Cleanliness so as to achieve the objective of Swachh Bharat Mission by 2017.
The Chief Minister informed that Goa has provided toilets to 72 persons households. However, slums he said pause a challenge and that a solution can be found if all work collectively. He also expressed concern that at various places sewage is discharged into open nullahs.
Minister for PWD Shri Ramkrishna Dhavalikar who also attended the function in his address stress the need to take the Swachh Bharat Mission among the people so as to make the country prosperous in all spheres. This he said can be accomplished through village level and by making everyone educated. Cleanliness should begin at home he asserted. He called for judicious use of water and added saying that Goa is one of the best State to provide metered water to the consumers.
Earlier, Shri Parimal Rai, IAS, Principal Secretary(PWD) welcomed. Shri D.J.S. Borker, Principal Chief Engineer, PWD later proposed vote of thanks.
