State Election Commissioner Shri W.V. Ramanamurthy, IAS (Retd.) presented the annual reports of the local body elections conducted by the Goa State Election Commission in the year 2021 and 2022 to Governor of Goa Shri P. S. Sreedharan Pillai. State Election Commissioner briefed the Governor about the role and responsibilities of the Commission in conducting the local body elections in free, fair and transparent manner.
Governor, Shri Pillai emphasized that the State Election Commissions, are constituted under Article 243K and 243ZA pursuant to the 73rd & 74th Amendments to the Constitution of India, which are significant milestones in the direction of establishing and strengthening democratic decentralised administration through Local-Self Governance by ensuring that elections to the Local Bodies are held on time, and in a free, fair and impartial manner. Governor also expressed his views stating that the reports of the Goa State Election Commission would be quite useful to all stakeholders concerned with elections to the Local bodies.
