15/07/2014 … Even though various initiatives are being taken by the goa state government to tackle garbage problems members of the village panchayat of merces in tiswaddi taluka are put in to a difficult situation after being unable to find a contractor to take care of the garbage scattered inside its village jurisdiction
It may be noted that the village panchayat of merces had issued a tender notice dated 15/05/2014 asking for tenders for collection, transportation and disposal of garbage from the jurisdiction of village panchayat of merces tiswaddi goa for a period of 1/06/2014 to 30/09/2014 for an estimated cost of rs 2,10,450 but even after the deadline of 27/05/2014 not a single contractor and approached the panchayat for taking up the job due to which the panchayat has been finding it difficult to clean up the garbage area from the village jurisdiction Also around two to three areas which the panchayat had identified for garbage sorting had been rejected by the goa pollution control board for certain technical reasons
Speaking to goanreporter sarpanch of merces village panchayat Vincent lourenco said that there were no takers for garbage from merces village due to low cost of the garbage tender as well as there was no garbage dumping site for the village jurisdiction
Vincent said the panchayat was facing a lot of hurdles in tacking garbage issue due to non availability of a garbage site
Vincent also stated that the panchayat had also taken strict action on those who were carrying out illegal constructions in village jurisdiction
