Governor, Shri. P.S. Shreedharan Pillai today visited Salcete and Quepem Talukas in South Goa as part of “Goa Saimik Daiz Yatra ”.
On his arrival at Holy Spirit Church, Margao MLA, Shri Vijay Sardesai, welcomed the Governor. Others present were Fr. Amandio Valadares, Parish Priest of Holy Spirit Church, Fabrica Members and the Parish Pasteal Council, PIC, Smt. Esmeralda Mendes e Fernandes, Headmistress of Holy Spirit School and others were present.
After offering prayers in the church the Governor saw the Maddi (Sterculia Foetida) tree, which is also known as Nagin tree locally in the campus of Holy Spirit Church wherein he was apprised of the history and other details of the tree by Parish Priest and noted historian Shri Sanjeev Sardesai.
Upon arrival at the Old Quepem Police Station area the Governor was welcomed by local MLA, Shri Altone Dcosta, Shri Chandrakant Kavlekar, Former Deputy Chief Minister and others. The Governor offered prayers at Shree Laxmi Mandir.
Later, the Governor offered prayers at the giant Baobab tree which is believed to be one of the oldest tree. Governor is keen to learn about the rich eco-cultural traditions behind these sacred and other trees in the State.
Later, the Governor Shri P.S.Sreedharan Pillai visited Shree Muddeshwar Sateri Devasthan, Kusmane at Quepem and offered prayers. Shri C. K. Desai, President of Devasthan welcomed him. He also offered prayers at the old heritage Peepal tree in the temple vicinity.
Speaking during the visit the Governor said, one earth one family and one future will pave the path for global welfare. This he said it is derived from a “Bharatiya” concept Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.
The Governor, who is very much attracted concerned about nature informed that he is very much interested in visiting the islands in Goa, which will be undertaken shortly. Speaking further, the Governor said Goa has a rich heritage and culture and added that Raj Bhavan will publish a special edition based on his Goa Saimik Daiz Yatra ” in the form of a book.
