Panaji, February 29, 2020 ::: Directorate of Transport, Government of Goa in association with Manipal Hospitals Goa has conducted Basic Life Support Training for the officers involved in Road Safety Program of Government of Goa. The training program was inaugurated by Director of Transport Department, Shri Rajan Satardekar. Head of Department, Oncology Department and a Senior Surgeon at Manipal Hospital, Dr. Shekhar Salkar were present on the occasion.
The session was attended by Dy. Director (S), Shri Ivo Rodrigues and Asstt. Directors and Motor Vehicle Inspectors of Directorate of Transport and Representatives of State Road Safety Council, namely Department of Environment, Panaji Traffic Police Cell, KTCL and North Goa Collectorate.
The session was taken by Head of Department, Emergency and Trauma at KMC, Hospital Mangalore and Manipal Hospitals Goa, Dr. Jeedhu Radhakrishnan. PRO of Manipal Hospital, Shri Jones Samuel Coordinated the training program.
While imparting training the trainer emphasized that, lives can be saved by timely first aid during Golden Hour which is a first hour after accident, during which the accident victim have higher chances of survival. Officers of Transport Department are involved in duty on highways and roads and can act as a first responded, until medical help arrives.
Trainer demonstrated how’ to move victim to safety position and carryout first aid. It takes less than 4 minutes for a blocked airway to cause death. Trainer demonstrated about how to know that victim is able to breath and clearing airway, restore breathing stop bleeding until help arrives.
