Once a popular post harvest sport, dhirio was banned in Goa two decades ago following directions of the Bombay High Court bench in Panaji.

But recently It may be noted that the Goa state government had formed a house committee led by st andre mla vishnu surya wagh in order to explore ways and means to legalise bullfighting in the ambit of the existing laws related to animal cruelty laws,

Speaking to media reporters calangute mla Michael lobo said that dhirios has been a tradition in the state of goa and therefore the tradition had to be carried on without doing any cruelty to animals

benaulim mla caitu silva said that it was a good news that even the central government had taught over the issue of bull-taming and were trying to pass a legislation to legalize it
